Our centre

Welcome to the Centre for Commercial Law and Governance at the Faculty of Law, Bond University. The Faculty has a long tradition of research and teaching in commercial law, which we intend to foster and support through the work of the Centre.  

With a rich 35-year history, the Centre for Commercial Law and Governance integrates the strengths of the former Centre for Commercial Law and the Centre for Enterprise Governance. Our mission is to foster collaboration among specialists, deliver innovative educational programs, and conduct groundbreaking research that addresses contemporary challenges in the field.

The Centre aims to build on this tradition and to provide a dynamic hub for education, research, and practice in commercial law, regulation, and governance. The Centre is interested in all areas of law relating to commercial activity including Corporate Law, Intellectual Property Law, Sports Law Governance, Consumer Law, and related areas.

The Centre has a global outlook guided by a diverse, multijurisdictional Advisory Board and members with demonstrated expertise in their areas.

Becoming an Associate of the Centre

Any person with an interest in activities of the Centre in the areas of Commercial Law and Governance can become an Associate of the Centre. Associates will be kept updated with the plans and activities of the Centre and invited to contribute in relation to their interests and expertise. Our activities

Research and scholarship

Research projects and publications – The Centre for Commercial Law and Governance supports and encourages members to engage in commercial law, regulation and governance scholarship and research projects, and produce high-quality and impactful research outputs, including monographs, journal articles, and conference papers.

Research funding and collaborations – The Centre:

  • assists members in applying for funding for their research activities,
  • facilitates and coordinates research collaborations between members, and
  • hosts visits by leading scholars and industry participants.

Journals – The Centre hosts The Sports Law and Governance Journal, and is actively considering the launch of a Centre journal.

Annual conference – The Centre hosts each year the annual Interdisciplinary Sport Colloquium as well as a Centre annual conference. 

Contract research – The Centre and its members are available to engage in research projects commissioned by public and private organisations.

Supervision of HDR students – The Centre facilitates and coordinates the recruitment, enrolment and supervision of HDR students (including PhD, SJD and LLM by Research students) engaging in commercial law, regulation and governance research and scholarship.

Executive education and engagement

In collaboration with the Faculty of Law, the Centre contributes to the development and delivery of executive education programs in the area of commercial law, regulation and governance.

Student engagement

The Centre for Commercial Law and Governance is committed to cultivating the next generation of legal professionals, business leaders, governance professionals and policy innovators. Our student programs are designed to bridge academic excellence with real-world impact, offering a dynamic environment where learning extends beyond the classroom. Through interactive seminars, case study workshops and mentorship opportunities, students gain a deep understanding of the legal frameworks that shape regulatory, governance and legal practice both locally and globally.
