Samantha Carroll is Practice Director Governance, Compliance and Regulation at Ash Street, an independent professional services firm that provides legal, compliance and other advisory services.  A former recipient of Queensland's Emergent Woman Lawyer of the Year and shortlisted as Chief Compliance Officer of the Year for the C5 International Compliance Awards in 2018, Samantha is recognised as a leading expert in her field.  

Samantha is a governance, compliance and regulation expert with over 10 years of experience in governance and compliance for the Bank of Queensland. Samantha has significant experience advising public and private sector clients on the implementation, upgrading and review of their governance and compliance systems.  

Samantha is a fellow of the GRC Institute and GIA and a consultant for CCH Wolters Kluwer.

Kiri Parr spent more than 20 years as a construction lawyer, including 15 years as the Regional General Counsel for Arup, a large international structural design and engineering consulting company. Kiri was on the board of Consult Australia, the industry body for consultants in the building environment, for 6 years, and was president from 2017 to 2019.  

In 2014 and 2015, Kiri was included in Women’s Agenda’s ‘most powerful part-timers’ list, and from 2015 to 2019 was listed by Doyle as one of Australia’s leading in-house construction lawyers. As a guest speaker, Kiri discusses risk management in complex infrastructure projects, and how boards understand risk, compliance, contracts, budgets, and commercial structure in major infrastructure projects.

Tom McLeod is an experienced chief audit executive and chief risk officer. He is the former Global Head of Internal Audit at Rio Tinto – one of the world's largest and most complex organisations – and also worked as the General Manager Audit and Fraud at SingTel Optus, Australia's second-largest telecommunications company. Tom has also worked at The Star Entertainment Group, and prior to his current role, was Head of Risk at the Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC). Now, Tom is the Chief Audit and Risk Officer at RMIT University in Melbourne.  

Tom has over 25 years of global and multi-industry experience in risk management, internal auditing, insurable risk financing, fraud and corruption investigations, business analysis, program evaluation, and compliance activities.

Natalie Caton is a partner at top-tier law firm DLA Piper. She advises multinational clients across sectors including energy and mining, financial services, agribusiness, food and beverage, gaming, and infrastructure. Her expertise extends to corporate reputation and risk management, particularly with respect to cross-border and international business in emerging markets.  

This includes undertaking risk assessments and devising risk mitigation strategies, as well as the development, implementation and monitoring of practical and effective compliance programs, advising on approaches to corporate and executive (director and offer) reputation protection, regulator liaison expertise and internal communication methodologies.

Honorary Adjunct Professor Hon. Paul Lucas is a former Deputy Premier and Attorney-General of Queensland, and was a minister in the Queensland State Government for 11 years. His ministerial responsibilities included infrastructure and planning, transport and main roads, local government, energy, and health. Now, Paul is a non-executive director and consultant. A fellow of the Institute of Company Directors, he has held board positions with and consulted to public and private sector corporations including Airservices Australia and Powerlink. He was also Chair of the Queensland Cross River Rail Delivery Authority, advising on Queensland’s largest-ever infrastructure project.  

Currently, Paul is the Non-Executive Director of the Central Highlands Development Corporation, and a board member at the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health, one of Australia's largest Indigenous-controlled, multi-disciplinary health services. He is also a member of the Queensland Advisory Board of the National Heart Foundation. Paul speaks to the legislative process, how laws are formed, and how governance intersects with the legal foundations of society.
