Architecture

For the design makers and skyline shapers

Overview

Architecture is about the union between design and construction to create a habitable space. It’s about pushing the boundaries and thinking outside the box to craft something unimaginably unique. The architect behind Bond University’s iconic Arch, Arata Isozaki, said, “The most important thing an artist can do is confront society with something it has never seen before…”.

At Bond University’s Abedian School of Architecture, you will learn the skills of the future, today. With lectures and tutorials delivered in the award-winning Abedian School of Architecture building, you’ll be inspired to envision the impossible in our collaborative, hands-on learning environment that not only talks the talk, but walks the walk. As an architecture student at Bond, you will have your very own studio-based desk for the duration of your degree, providing you with a dedicated space to work, study, collaborate and find inspiration.

Creative, practical, and future-focused, our architecture programs will provide you with a learning experience where you will be immersed in innovative projects, studio workshops and research initiatives under the mentorship of internationally recognised academic practitioners. So, why not turn the key and unlock the door to your future in architecture today?

Welcome from the Head of School

Welcome from the Head of School

The Abedian School of Architecture, designed by renowned British architects Sir Peter Cook and Gavin Robotham of CRAB Studio, is an inspiring piece of architecture. It is a space designed as a social condenser that fosters learning and creativity and as an environmental device that supports well-being, regulating natural daylight and air to connect inside and outside. Above all, it reminds us that architecture can be socially responsive, generous, playful, and fun. In this setting, we educate and nurture future generation of architects, designers, and practitioners who will lead and shape our profession and impact our built environment.

Students at the Abedian School of Architecture enjoy the unique opportunities to be taught by leading practitioners and academics within a studio setting, where every student has their own desk space throughout their study. Our open-plan studio-based culture emulates a real-world contemporary architecture office environment where students are encouraged to collaborate, experiment, test, and prototype ideas, integrating technical skills with critical thinking and disciplinary knowledge.

The ethos of learning through making is core to our teaching. Having the lowest student-to-staff ratios in architecture education in Australia means that you, as a student, will receive focused mentorship and engagement as well as access to world-class facilities and state-of-the-art equipment. You will develop skills and confidence in design thinking, research methodology and interdisciplinary knowledge to deal with our society’s emerging and often complex issues. What is the role of the architects in addressing climate change, decolonisation, place, and identity? How will emerging technologies shape the way we live, work, and learn in the future? What is sustainable design? At the Abedian School of Architecture, you will confront and address these questions as you position yourself to succeed in the profession and shape the future of the built environment.

So, welcome to the Abedian School of Architecture in the Faculty of Society & Design at Bond University.

A message from Dr Soheil Abedian

From the beginning of humanity - architecture, along with literature, painting, and music, has been the foundation for the cultural evaluation of different races and nations.

I am delighted to play a small role in establishing the Abedian School of Architecture with Bond University, which I believe in time, will be the contributor of new designers that will influence the art of architecture, not alone in Australia but throughout the world.
