How the Clinic Works

Services

Our professional, accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners have extensive experience in Family Dispute Resolution.

The Clinic aims to assist families through the Family Dispute Resolution process to overcome challenges associated with separation, and to establish effective post-separation parenting arrangements for the family’s well-being into the future. The Clinic is dedicated to reducing the negative effects of conflict for separated families and improving and strengthening future parenting relationships in the best interests of the children.

Student Training Centre

The Clinic also provides Bond Family Dispute Resolution students with supervised workplace experience with a focus on best practice and safety.  Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner trainees seeking accreditation are able to do a maximum of 20 hours of supervised practice in the Bond University Family Dispute Resolution Clinic.

Clinical supervision is provided by highly experienced, accredited Family Dispute Resolution practitioners.

What You Can Expect

Consultations, intake sessions and all family dispute resolution sessions are conducted online via Zoom. The service is therefore convenient and efficient and Family Dispute Resolution sessions can be organised quickly. All parties will need appropriate technology access and will need to be on their own as confidentiality is a critical aspect of Family Dispute Resolution.

If you don’t have access to technology, it might be possible to arrange for the process to be conducted via a telephone or in-person at the Bond University Gold Coast or Brisbane campuses.

Fees

The Bond University FDR Clinic is affordable. The Clinic charges $100 per hour for each party. Intake sessions usually take one hour, and Family Dispute Resolution sessions usually take up to 4 hours. This means that the usual costs for each parent are $500 for the whole process.

What to Expect

The Bond University Family Dispute Resolution Clinic can organise Family Dispute Resolution sessions quickly.

Step 1

You can express your interest in using the Clinic’s Family Dispute Resolution services by completing this online form.

Step 2

The Directors of the Clinic will review your Expression of Interest and be in touch to advise whether the matter is suitable to proceed further.

Step 3

If the matter is not suitable for this Clinic, the Clinic Coordinator will assist you with referrals to other available services.

Step 4

If the matter is suitable for this Clinic, the Directors will arrange a time to conduct an intake session with you to explain the Family Dispute Resolution process and to understand more about your family and what you would like to achieve through the Family Dispute Resolution process. The intake session can be conducted online or by telephone at a time that is convenient for you.

Step 5

After the intake session with you the Directors decide whether it is appropriate to invite the other parent to offer the Clinic’s Family Dispute Resolution services.

Step 6

If appropriate, the other parent is invited to an intake session to hear about the Family Dispute Resolution process and how it can help with negotiating post-separation parenting and property arrangements.

Step 7

If after both intake sessions the Directors decide Family Dispute Resolution can proceed, and if both parents agree, then a Family Dispute Resolution session is organised. The session is conducted online via Zoom on a day and time that suits you. Sessions are usually about 4 hours long and are conducted by an experienced accredited Family Dispute Resolution practitioner. If both parents consent, you may have a trainee Family Dispute Resolution practitioner working in your session with the accredited supervising practitioner. If additional sessions are required, they can be arranged.

Step 8

If after both intake sessions the Directors decide it is not appropriate to proceed with a Family Dispute Resolution session, then the Directors of the Clinic can arrange for a section 60I certificate to be issued. This is the certificate that is required if you want to file a parenting matter in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. The Clinic Coordinator will also assist you with referrals to other services.

Objectives of the Clinic

To provide high quality professionally supervised Family Dispute Resolution services to clients in Queensland and northern NSW.
To provide Bond Family Dispute Resolution students with the opportunity to complete their required hours of supervised Family Dispute Resolution practice. (The supervised Family Dispute Resolution practice is a course requirement for satisfactory completion of the Family Dispute Resolution training which is conducted by Bond University's Faculty of Law Centre for Dispute Resolution.)
To provide students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in a controlled and supportive environment and prepare them for Family Dispute Resolution practice.
