BUHMUN: Inspiring the leaders of tomorrow
The primary objective of the Bond University High School Model United Nations (BUHMUN) is to inspire and shape the future leaders of tomorrow. This two-day conference challenges secondary students to take on the role of a modern diplomat and represent a country’s position in simulated international debates to address the world’s most pressing issues. BUHMUN provides an immersive, exciting, and informative experience for high schoolers to learn about international relations. The Faculty of Society & Design at Bond University has been proud to host this event since it was first established in 2017 as Australia’s first university-run MUN for high school students.
BUHMUN 2022 was held on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 May, 2022 to huge success.
BUHMUN 2023 will be held on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 May, 2023!

What is a MUN?
A Model UN, AKA a ‘MUN’, is a mock sitting of the United Nations, or a simulated learning exercise wherein students adopt the role of a representative for a specific country. Each student is tasked with representing the interests of their assigned country as the conference deliberates significant global issues. Throughout the MUN, students can expect to provide opening statements, deliberate with their colleagues on potential solutions, and ultimately come to a consensus on a resolution, all while ensuring their country’s voice is heard.
BUHMUN 2023
Continuing our ongoing quest to elevate awareness of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), the theme for BUHMUN VII will be centred around Sustainable Development Goal 2: To end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. The theme was chosen, in part, as 2023 is the International Year of Millets. According to the UN, millets have served as a traditional food staple for hundreds of millions of people in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia for 7,000 years; however, their cultivation is declining in many countries, and their potential to address climate change and food security is not being realised in full.
