Getting into Bond University 

Navigating university entry requirements can seem a little overwhelming – but don’t worry, we’re here to make it simple. Essentially, the academic qualifications you’ll need to get into your chosen program will depend on where you’re at in life. Are you in high school? Have you completed prior university, or even VET study? Do you have professional experience under your belt? Your answer will inform your path to Bond. 

Specific entry requirements for Bond programs vary, depending on the program, and can include prior academic results and your highest level of education completed. Some programs also include additional requirements (like a portfolio submission or interview) as well as prerequisite subjects - high school or tertiary subjects that you will need to complete in order to start and succeed in your chosen program.

Defining a ‘domestic student’

Are you an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, or a holder of an Australian permanent visa? If so, you are a ‘domestic student’ in university terms.  

How do you get into Bond?

It all depends on where you’re at in your life. Find the scenario that best matches your academic qualifications, and we’ll step it out for you. And remember – you aren’t going it alone! I am a current high school student

If you are currently in Year 12 or your final year of high school, you can apply to Bond using your predicted ATAR and high school results to receive a conditional offer into your program. Offers for current Year 12 students will be made from early September.

I have completed high school 

If you have completed your secondary school qualification and graduated from high school  you can use your ATAR, OP or IB score (or equivalent) to gain entry to Bond. But if you’ve already completed some tertiary study, you can also apply for entry based on the subjects or programs you have completed or attempted. This can include vocational education and training (VET) studies.  

When you search for your program, you will find the minimum entry score for your program. Some programs may also require the completion of pre-requisite subjects, a portfolio submission, or additional selection criteria – you'll find all this detail on the program’s webpage.  

I have completed prior higher education study

To have prior higher education recognised for admission into Bond University, you must have completed at least one semester of full-time undergraduate study (Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 or above) at a recognised university.

Your application will be assessed based on the subjects you have completed or attempted to complete at another institution. Your GPA will be assessed and you will be assigned a selection rank using the below framework.

If you have also obtained an ATAR and have completed less than two years full time study, Bond University will consider the higher ranked of the two qualifications (ATAR or GPA) for admission.

I have completed high school but did not receive an ATAR

Bond University considers non-ATAR students for admission into the following diploma programs:

The Diploma of Health Sciences and Diploma of Legal Studies are not eligible for an entry pathway as a non-ATAR student.

To be considered for non-ATAR entry, you must have:

  • Completed Year 12 and obtained a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or equivalent 
  • Received a pass mark or higher in a minimum of three General or Applied subject (with a grade of C or better in Units 3 and 4). 
I have completed vocational educational and training (VET) study

Bond University accepts VET qualifications, including Certificate IVs, diplomas, and advanced diplomas, for entry.

All applicants using VET qualifications for entry must be 18 years old or older at the time of admission, or must have completed a Year 12 certificate of education (Queensland Certificate of Education or equivalent).

Students under the age of 18 may be admitted if more than two years have passed from the completion of Year 10, or one year from the completion of Year 11.

Please note that VET qualifications are not accepted for direct entry into the following programs:

School leavers with VET qualifications

If you complete a VET qualification in school and then go on to successfully complete Year 12 (with or without an ATAR), Bond will assess your VET qualification for admission. You will be assessed based on your highest completed in-school VET qualification, and must have also successfully completed Year 12.

If you have also obtained an ATAR, then Bond University will consider the higher ranked of the two qualifications (ATAR or VET) for admission. 

Only AQF Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas completed after finishing high school are eligible for credit. If you completed a Diploma or Advanced Diploma while still at school, it can be used to meet admission requirements, but it won't be eligible for credit towards your degree.

I have work and life experience

Another way to gain entry to Bond University is by demonstrating relevant work and life experience. Professional experience and/or qualifications, including employment experience, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

 

There are also number of other entry options you can consider, including:  

  • Sitting the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT), intended for applicants without other university entrance qualifications and is administered by QTAC. Your STAT score will be converted to an equivalent university entry score and used in the assessment of your application.
     
  • Considering a bridging program, or undertaking a Bond University College Preparation Program or higher education diploma program.
