Review of results

A review of results allows for grades to be checked for any computational errors and, in most cases, for your interim or final assessment to be reviewed by a different educator to address specific concerns about how the assessment was marked.

Before you apply

  • Review of Results are conducted in accordance with the Review of Results Procedure
  • A review will not provide you with assessment feedback. If you are seeking feedback on your grade or feel a computational error was made in marking your assessment, contact your Lead Educator, Discipline Lead, or the SASQ team within your Faculty or University Academic Unit (UAU)
  • A review conducted after final subject grades are released will only focus on a review of the final assessment, not a review of all assessments for the subject
  • You may only seek a review of an assessment outcome if it had a weighting of 15% or more or it was a hurdle assessment
  • You should check Conditions and limitations before proceeding.

For practical and performative assessments:

  •  where the assessment has been recorded (for example, an oral presentation captured under the Recording of Learning & Teaching Activities Policy) a review may be undertaken by a different educator
  • where the assessment was not recorded (e.g. an OSCE, a clinical rotation, or a work-based learning activity), a review will consist only of an administrative check of whether the marks for the assessment have been aggregated correctly

Grounds for requesting a review

There are two grounds for requesting a review:

  1. There was a computational, arithmetical or clerical error in determining the assessment mark (including incorrect weightings as specified in the subject outline)

For this ground, you need to demonstrate that an error was made in adding up your marks either in an individual assessment or in the collation of all assessments for the subject, or the weightings, as set out in the subject outline, were not applied correctly

  2. The assessment was not graded or conducted in accordance with published University policy, procedure, or assessment criteria

For this ground, you need to demonstrate that the grade you received was not in accordance with an assessment related policy or procedure (such as the Assessment Policy or Assessment Procedure) or the published rubric or task sheet for the assessment. You must identify in your application which policy, procedure or other assessment criteria was misapplied

When and how to apply

Possible outcomes

A review of results may result in:

  • No change to the assessment mark
  • A higher mark being awarded
  • A lower mark being awarded

If a higher or lower mark is awarded, this may affect your final subject grade.

Ineligible applications

If your application is not eligible, your assessment won’t be reviewed, and you’ll be notified in writing with the reason why it was not eligible. If your application is rejected, you can’t submit another request for review. You also cannot seek a review or appeal of the decision that the application was ineligible.

Depending on your circumstances, there may be other options for you to explore. For example, if your results were impacted due to personal circumstances beyond your control that did not make full impact until on or after census date and made it impractical to complete the requirements of the subject, you may be eligible to apply for withdrawal without academic and/or financial penalty.

Appealing the outcome of a Review of Results

If a review of your assessment was undertaken and you're not satisfied with the outcome, you may be eligible to submit an appeal. Check the Review of Results Procedure.

An appeal against a review of results outcome is limited to:

  • There was a misapplication of policy or procedure resulting in disadvantage to the student.

Before submitting an appeal, make sure you:

This will help you understand the process and the conditions you need to meet before submitting your appeal.
