Meet your session host

Professor Steven Freeland

Steven Freeland is an internationally recognised expert in space law and international criminal law. He is an Emeritus Professor at Western Sydney University and Professorial Fellow at Bond University, with visiting roles at universities around the world. Before entering academia, he spent 20 years as an international lawyer and investment banker. Steven advises governments—including Australia—on space policy and law, and represents Australia at the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. He is a Vice-Chair of a UN working group on space resource activities and a co-lead at Azimuth Advisory, a specialist space law firm. In 2022, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Institute of Space Law.
