Description
This subject introduces students to the scientific methods of psychological research. It includes an overview of research design and techniques for analysing data. Students learn how to evaluate the strengths and limitations of various research designs and how to critically scrutinise results published in psychological journals.

Learning outcomes
- Apply and critically evaluate research methods, including research design, data analysis and interpretation, to investigate psychological questions.
- Critically analyse theory and research in psychology, including results published in psychological journals.
- Communicate a research proposal in written format using APA conventions.
- Apply appropriate ethical principles and professional standards, including the ethical use of digital technologies, to the design and conduct of psychological research.
- Apply culturally responsive principles when designing and conducting psychological research, including with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
- Communicate research findings orally to an academic audience.
- Reflect on how personal values, assumptions and biases influence the research process.
