Description
Law of Succession and Administration of Estates is an elective subject in postgraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Law. This subject will provide a brief overview of enduring documents and their relationship to succession law, family maintenance and the role of personal representatives. The specific topics to be covered will be: an introduction to enduring documents; introduction to wills and other transactions; making and execution of wills; alteration, revival, republication and revocation of wills; death, burial and cremation; personal representatives, probate and administration; payment of debts and order of application of assets; legacies, devises and beneficiaries; intestacy and family provision

Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate a detailed understanding of Succession Law in Queensland including legislation and relevant legal resources
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of and apply the principles of estate planning
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of the historical development of relevant legislation in response to social and economic change
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of and justify the role of a personal representative in administering an estate
- Critically evaluate the intersection between equitable principles and succession rules in context

Students must be admitted into a Masters Level law degree OR LA-43040 Doctor of Legal Science (Research) OR be an approved Law Study Abroad or Law Exchange student.
