About this program

The Bachelor of Communication develops the most sought-after employability skills, including creativity, critical thinking, communication, leadership, ethical judgement and strategic decision-making, preparing you to excel across a wide range of professional and creative industries. Grounded in evidence-based communication practice, you will explore how messages influence audiences, shape culture and drive engagement across professional fields. Through hands-on learning, you will develop a portfolio of real-world work, including campaigns and digital content to podcasts, social media and brand projects, often produced in collaboration with industry partners. In addition to a professional communication specialisation in either advertising, journalism, public relations or social media, you will have the opportunity to tailor your degree to your ambitions by choosing from a wide range of elective minors, including creative pursuits such as film and television, digital media, and creative writing. Taught by experienced communication professionals and supported by strong industry connections, the program prepares you to work confidently across diverse professional contexts, including roles in government, not-for-profits, agencies, corporations or as independent contractors or business owners. Our graduates win national and international awards across a wide range of communication roles, reflecting the evolving nature of professional practice.

What you'll be studying

  • Year 1

In your first year, you’ll begin your communication major or minor right away, taking three subjects in it. You’ll also take foundational communication subjects such as Strategic Speaking and Writing, Communication in the Workplace, and Digital Media and Society.    In addition, you’ll complete Bond’s three unique core subjects that ensure every student develops skills in critical thinking, collaboration, leadership, and integrity, and you will begin Beyond Bond, a practical, activity-based compulsory professional development program.

Program features

  • Learn by doing

Our classes combine theoretical learning with hands-on activities. During your studies, you may choose to intern in-house with an organisation or with an advertising or public relations agency. Past students have interned at Edelman, Ogilvy PR, Channel 7, Channel 10, and the Gold Coast Bulletin. On campus, you’ll create blogs, podcasts, media stories and websites for publication, and produce advertising schedules, public relations campaigns, and social media strategies for real clients.

  • Industry in the classroom

Learn from industry experts. You’ll be taught by lecturers who have professional expertise in advertising, public relations, corporate writing, social media, journalism, management, creative writing, film production, consulting, and other areas.

  • Dynamic qualification

Graduate with a broad-based qualification that gives you a competitive edge by equipping you with the fundamental skillset required in communication and related professions. You will also have one or two major or minor areas of specialisation in communication, which will broaden your career opportunities.
