2022 Indigenous Gala

We are excited that the 2022 Indigenous Gala will be back on campus on Friday 14th October

Under the patronage of Dr Patrick Corrigan AM, the event is a celebration of Indigenous culture featuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and entertainers, as well as past and present Indigenous students. The night also includes a live art auction, raffle and silent auction.

ABOUT 
The Indigenous Gala is a signature event on the University’s annual calendar. It serves as both a major fundraiser and an opportunity to promote Indigenous culture to the wider community.  The event attracts over 500 corporate and community attendees from all over Australia and, since 2010, has succeeded in raising almost $3.2 million for scholarships, grants and bursaries.  

GUEST SPEAKER 
Special Guest and Keynote Speaker, Dr Mark Wenitong. As one of the first Aboriginal doctors in Australia, Dr Wenitong has had an extensive, impactful career in Indigenous health service, national policy and research. For the past 12 years he served as the Senior Public Health Advisor and Medical Officer for Apunipima Cape York Health Council which is responsible for providing primary health care to 11 Cape York communities. 

Dr Wenitong is currently Director of Research Knowledge Translation for the Lowitja Institute and Inaugural Chair of the Queensland Health Statewide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander  
Clinical Network. 

In 2020 he received a National Public Health Award for his leadership and commitment to improving Indigenous health outcomes. Dr Wenitong knows the transformative power of education and looks forward to sharing some of his experiences at this year’s Gala.
