Session 1: 10am - 11am - Introducing the Centre for Transformative Construction Systems.
Presenter: Associate Professor Dane Miller
Discover how the Centre for Transformative Construction Systems is reimagining the future of the built environment through industrialised construction and collaborative innovation. This introductory session will explore the Centre's vision, its strategic direction, and the challenges driving the need for transformative change across the construction sector. The presenter will provide a reflection on their involvement with the Building 4.0 CRC and how this has contributed to the establishment of a new National Housing Platform. The session will explore how interoperable construction systems have the potential to improve productivity, housing delivery, sustainability, and industry collaboration. The session will provide valuable perspectives for government, industry, researchers, and practitioners seeking to understand the next generation of construction innovation and the opportunities to contribute to its future. The Centre's direction has been shaped by the collective expertise, research and practical achievements of its members, providing a clear pathway for future innovation. By continuing to challenge conventional approaches and develop transformative construction systems, the Centre aims to play a meaningful role in addressing improved productivity, reduced carbon emissions and support resilient built environments.
Session 2: 11am – 12pm - Introducing the Centre for Neuroscience, Cognition, and Performance
Presenters: Professor Ahmed Moustafa, Associate Professor Victor Schinazi, Dr Daniel McKeown, Dr Jacob Thorstensen, Dr Belinda Craig
Interest in the science of cognitive performance extends beyond the laboratory into elite sport, defence, resource industries, and finance. The Centre for Neuroscience, Cognition, and Performance is focused on developing evidence-based approaches to measuring and optimising human cognitive performance, with a view towards direct application in these domains. In this session, we discuss the Centre’s goals, team, and plan. The session will open with an overview of members' research programs and expertise, the rationale for the Centre, the expertise it draws together, and the direction of its work over the coming years. Members from the Faculty of Society and Design and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine then present a selection of current work: novel methods for measuring spatial navigation and detecting cognitive impairment; navigation ability in autism spectrum disorder; stress and non-invasive brain stimulation; and face perception and emotion processing. The session will be of interest to researchers, practitioners, and industry and government partners working on human performance, both as an introduction to the Centre's capability and as a starting point for collaboration.
