The Bond Institute of Health & Sport is a world class teaching and training facility, focusing on promoting healthy behaviours and lifestyles, through research, to better the lives of students, athletes and the wider community.

With an aim to be recognised as a leader in inspiring healthy living through innovation, collaboration and education, the Bond Institute of Health & Sport accommodates learning and collaboration to enable the future influencers of tomorrow. 

Located just 4 km from the Bond University main campus, the Institute is adjacent to the Robina Hospital, CBus Super Stadium and Robina train station.

Facilities

The facilities at the Institute not only support the university’s student athletes and premier health and sport programs but also attract international athletes and sport organisations for elite competition preparation.

The Institute is also comprised of clinical skills rooms, simulation spaces, and specialised teaching rooms for allied health programs and research including occupational therapy, physiotherapy as well as nutrition and dietetics.

There are also conference and meeting facilities, a multimedia study centre and on-site café.

A world-class training facility for the University’s teaching and research programs, this high performance training centre is also utilised by the university elite student athletes and attracts some of world’s top sporting organisations.

The exercise and sports science laboratories are used extensively by students studying exercise and sports science, physiotherapy and nutrition and dietetics.

Students and researchers have access to specialised technology to deliver a wide range of athlete testing and performance analysis. These facilities provide sports science testing and training services to a variety of elite and sub-elite athletes, providing an exceptional learning experience.

Bond University continually invests in equipment and resources to ensure students and researchers have access to the most up to date advanced and industry-standard equipment.

The Institute not only includes a lap and rehab pool, but several contrast temperature recovery pools, sauna and steam rooms.

Pool

  • 25m lap pool
  • Lanes 1 & 2 with standard FINA depth
  • Lanes 4&5 with 4x flat platforms for rehab

Recovery pools

  • Pool 1 – cold walk through approx 10-15 °C
  • Pool 2 – cold plunge <10 °C
  • Pool 3 – warm spa at >34 °C

Sauna and steam rooms 

Altitude training involves exercising in oxygen reduced air for the purpose of improved athletic performance, pre-acclimatization to altitude and/or physical wellness.

  • Hypoxic heat/ humidity altitude room for up to 10 people
  • Ranges up to extreme altitude levels
  • Equipment includes treadmills, watt bikes and rowing machines

The clinical skills rooms provide practical experience for students in the allied health programs including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nutrition and dietetics.

Students are exposed to a variety of real-world situations in hospital-based and outpatient environments before they commence placements as part of their degree. Students work alongside academics and health care professionals with the simulation becoming more complex as students progress through their course.

All rooms are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and reflect what is currently used in clinical practice.  These authentic experiences assist students to integrate theory with practice.  

Bond University's medical and allied health students also gain practical experience at the Clinical Education and Research Centre at Robina Hospital.

The newly refurbished occupational therapy rooms are specially designed teaching spaces to enable students to acquire the hands-on skills needed for a successful career in occupational therapy such as physical rehabilitation, assistive technology, psychology and communication.

These specially designed facilities include:

  • simulated living space
  • ergonomics work space
  • observation room
  • splinting laboratory

 

The Institute includes specialised physiotherapy teaching spaces, as well as smaller clinical skills rooms. 

These are set up to provide a therapist-patient experience similar to a professional clinic and assists the transition of students into the healthcare setting for placements.
