LAWS77-128: Climate Change and Emissions Trading Law

Description

Climate Change and Emissions Trading Law is an elective subject in postgraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Law. The subject focuses on the law and practice in markets for trading of carbon credits arising from reductions of emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG). It examines the various international frameworks and policies for climate change mitigation. Legal rules in domestic frameworks for regulation of GHG emissions in Europe, USA, China, New Zealand, and Australia are examined and contextualised through an exploration of issues for design of access regimes, linkages, and complementary measures.

Learning outcomes

  1. Review, apply, and critique climate change and emissions trading law at an advanced level.
  2. Demonstrate advanced level research, reasoning, and communication skills in the application of climate change and emissions trading law to particular climate related issues.
  3. Devise and execute a substantial research project focused on climate change and emissions trading law.
