Description
Climate Violence and the Law is an elective subject in the postgraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Law. This subject reframes climate change as climate violence, and looks at the roles played by key actors, including nation States and corporations, in contributing to climate violence. The ways in which law can acknowledge and address forms of climate violence will be considered, including the obstacles which prevent legal reform. The subject adopts a constructive rather than fatalistic approach to climate change and climate law with the aim of empowering students to make a positive difference in this space.

Learning outcomes
- Critically review and explicate the law's response to climate violence and advocate for reform at an advanced level.
- Devise and execute a relevant research project presenting evidence-based legal arguments in relation to a contemporary climate violence issue.

Students must be enrolled in a Masters law degree OR LA-43040 Doctor of Legal Science (Research) OR be an approved Law Study Abroad or Law Exchange student. This subject is not available as a general elective. To be eligible for enrolment, the subject must be specified in the students’ program structure. |
