Exit Awards

Considering leaving your program early?

We understand that circumstances sometimes change, and you may be considering leaving your program earlier than planned. If you have successfully completed part of your degree, you may be eligible for an exit award; a lower-level qualification that formally recognises the studies you have completed before discontinuing.

What is an Exit Award?

An exit award is a formally recognised Bond University qualification that may be issued when a student discontinues their degree but has completed sufficient credit and satisfied the academic requirements for a lower-level award embedded within their program.

Exit awards are only considered after you discontinue or change your enrolment pattern.

Exit awards must comply with the University’s award and graduation rules, and are conferred following the same approval processes that apply to all Bond qualifications.

When you may be eligible

You may be eligible for an exit award if:

  • Your program includes an approved exit award within its structure.
  • You have successfully achieved the required credit points and academic requirements for that embedded award.
  • You discontinue or transfer out of your current program.

Eligibility is confirmed through formal assessment before an award can be issued.

Exit award eligibility is separate from academic progress monitoring. A student may be in good standing or on an academic progress status (e.g., Academic Warning or Conditional Enrolment); however, if they choose to leave the program and have completed the required components, an exit award may be considered.

How Exit Awards are assessed

Exit awards follow the same governance and approval pathways as all qualifications at Bond.

Academic assessment

Your completed subjects, credit points and program requirements are reviewed to confirm whether you have met the necessary academic threshold for the exit award.

Enrolment status

You must discontinue, request withdrawal, or transfer from your parent program before the exit award can be issued. Your enrolment status will be updated in accordance with the Academic Progress Policy and enrolment rules.

Award approval

Exit awards are conferred through the standard graduation and award‑approval processes as governed by Bond’s Graduation Policy and related rules. These processes ensure that awards issued by the University meet all academic and governance requirements.

How to request consideration for an Exit Award

If you are considering leaving your program and would like to explore exit award eligibility, follow these steps:

1. Speak with a Student Advisor

Your Student Affairs and Service Quality Manager or Student Assist can explain your options, including withdrawal, program transfer, or leave of absence. They will help you understand whether an exit award may be possible based on your academic record.

2. Review your completed subjects and credits

Your advisor can help you determine whether your progress meets the academic requirements for an exit award.

3. Submit a request to withdraw or transfer

To be considered for an exit award, you must formally discontinue your current program.

4. Award assessment and approval

Your eligibility will be assessed and, if approved, the exit award will be submitted through the standard graduation process for conferral.

Impact on future study

If you receive an exit award, you may be eligible to apply for entry into another Bond program in the future, including programs that recognise your completed subjects through advanced standing (subject to assessment). Some programs may also allow you to reapply and continue toward your original qualification, depending on program rules, availability, and academic progress history.

If you were previously on Academic Warning, Conditional Enrolment, or Exclusion, re-entry requirements may differ under the Academic Progress Policy.

Important information for international students

If you are an international student on a student visa, withdrawing from your program can have significant impacts on your visa status. Before requesting withdrawal:

  • Contact the International Student Team
  • Review your visa conditions
  • Seek advice to understand how receiving an exit award may affect your study or visa timeline

Important things to consider

  • Not all programs have exit awards, eligibility depends on program structure.
  • You must meet all academic requirements for the exit award.
  • You must discontinue or transfer before the award can be conferred.
  • Conferral follows the university’s graduation governance and approval rules.
