In this subject patterns and processes in marine and coastal environments are described. Past, present and future environmental risks to the marine and coastal zones are articulated. Approaches to monitoring and mitigating impacts are discussed through real-world examples.

Learning outcomes

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the structure and function of critical marine habitats, potential human impacts and how these potential impacts can be mitigated.
  2. Demonstrate applied knowledge of the biology and ecology of key fished species and the various tools available for fisheries management, including data analysis.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of threatened marine species and their management.
