This program is only available to domestic students. Your preference is currently set to international.

This program has been suspended from October 2026. There are no further intakes of students planned.

What can you do with your degree?

The Queensland Government recently decided that all infrastructure projects costing more than $50m are to be delivered using Building Information Modelling.

This is just one indicator that the design and delivery of construction and infrastructure projects is moving to another level, and that means opportunity can be expected to increase. Increasingly, clients are requiring that their medium and large construction and infrastructure projects be delivered using Building Information Modelling and Integrated Project Delivery systems.

Bond’s suite of postgraduate programs in Building Information Modelling ((BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) has been designed to prepare you to serve the immediate and long-term needs of government and industry as they continue to develop infrastructure and construction projects for the benefit of community.

Outcomes

BIM project manager

The BIM project manager (PM) is a specialist PM who has a solid knowledge of all aspects of BIM and accordingly is proficient at managing all specialist professionals who are required to work on complex projects in the BIM design and construction environment. They have an understanding of:

  • intellectual property rights
  • the use of model-generated documents and files
  • application of augmented reality and virtual reality software
  • advanced software used to integrate data into to utilise in PM.

BIM (schedule) consultant

A BIM schedule consultant has a solid overview knowledge of all aspects of BIM and an in depth understanding of the use of specialist software to get the best possible schedule outputs using BIM data for specific projects. The BIM schedule manager is an important member of all project teams preparing documentations for complex BIM centric projects.

5D BIM (cost) consultant

A 5D BIM consultant is an expert in cost management in the BIM environment, and uses specialist cost management software, combined with a solid understanding of software from other specialist areas of the BIM environment to contribute to superior outcomes in BIM-centric design and construction on large and/or complex projects. The BIM cost manager is an important member of all project teams preparing documentations for complex BIM centric projects.

Program learning outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes provide a broad and measurable set of standards that incorporate a range of knowledge, skills and abilities that will be achieved on completion of the program. These outcomes will help you determine whether this program aligns with your professional pathway, career and learning goals.

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the BIM framework developed and supported by buildingSMART Australasia and be able to contribute to project teams in alignment with the principles of that framework.
  2. Employ BIM approaches to interrogate software models to produce effective schedules, estimates and costs plans for major projects, and quickly and accurately assess the schedule and budget aspects of proposed project variations.
  3. Advise on the effective use of BIM software models to ensure effective management of project sustainability assessment, including consideration of embodied Energy consequences of proposed design solutions.
  4. Employ BIM platforms and Lean construction approaches to ensure minimum wastage during construction and maximum value from the operation of commissioned projects including from effective facilities management enabled by intelligent design decisions.
  5. Collaborate with BIM and Lean professionals across organisations to collect, integrate, and contribute to the analysis of large-scale BIM datasets for the development of urban infrastructure models that support evidence-based community planning and decision-making.
