Research interests

My research focuses on the automatic and reasoned processes that determine health behaviour. I aim to identify when behaviour is driven by habit, implicit attitude, and automatic emotional responses rather than by deliberate beliefs and considered action, and to use that understanding to target behaviour change more precisely.

My current research agenda encompasses three broad areas:

  1. Integrated dual-process models of health behaviour for predicting and changing health behaviour
  2. Self-regulation and environmental factors in the formation and enactment of habit
  3. Automatic and anticipated affective responses as determinants of health behaviour

Primarily I apply these theories to behaviours like physical activity, vaping, and sugar consumption. I also collaborate on a wide range of international projects on topics including personality psychology, environmental psychology, and sport participation and performance.
