Adams kicks goals by saving them

It’s a busy life, but it’s working beautifully.

That pretty much sums things up for Bond University Bachelor of Project Management student, Layla Adams.

And while the 2023 and 2024 Junior Matildas goalkeeper’s stocks keep rising, why change anything?

Adams, a member of Bond’s Elite Sport Program, has had quite the run in recent weeks.

It started with her selection in a Queensland Women’s team for a pre-season hit out against Brisbane Roar and ended with her re-signing with NPL Queensland franchise Gold Coast United for another season.

In between times, she was named Football Queensland’s National Premier League Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.

Adams says the award is icing on a cake that has been baking for a while.

“After being nominated for the past few years, to finally receive the award makes it even more special,” she said.

“I’ve put a lot of work into my football over the past few seasons, so it’s really rewarding to see that recognised, particularly after such a great season.

“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way, and it makes all the hard work feel worthwhile.”

Adams says the acknowledgement has come at the right time.

“Football is a sport where you’re constantly working to improve, and there are always challenges and setbacks along the way,” she said.

“Recognition like this is a great reminder that the work you put in does pay off, and it gives me even more motivation to keep pushing myself and see how far I can go.

“I know there’s still a lot I want to achieve, so hopefully this is just another step in the right direction.”

For Adams, the next few months will be about finding the right balance between football, university, and work, while continuing to develop as a goalkeeper.

Re-signing with Gold Coast United is an important piece of the pie.

“I’m really excited to sign with United again,” Adams said.

“And I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.

“I want to keep building on the season I just had, continue improving and put myself in the best position possible to achieve my goals, both on and off the field.”
