Research metrics play an increasingly important role in promotion applications, grant funding, research reporting, benchmarking, and demonstrating research influence. This practical masterclass will help researchers understand what research metrics can and cannot tell us, and how to use them responsibly and effectively.
Participants will explore commonly used indicators such as citation counts, h-indexes, journal metrics and altmetrics, while gaining hands-on insight into Bond University's current research metrics tools, including Pure, Scopus, PlumX Metrics and Altmetric Explorer. The session will also examine strategies for building compelling impact narratives that combine quantitative metrics with evidence of real-world influence and engagement.
Whether you're preparing a promotion application, developing a grant proposal, or simply looking to better understand your research profile, this session will provide practical guidance for interpreting metrics in context and showcasing the broader impact of your work. The masterclass will also offer a preview of new research intelligence capabilities becoming available at Bond in 2027, including enhanced Altmetric Explorer functionality.
