The upcoming semester for first year students in this program will be delivered in a multi-modal format, with a remote option available to students unable to attend.* Whether a student is on campus or remote, students will be able to access Bond’s personalised learning experience through interactive lectures, tutorials, seminars, and lab sessions.

Biomedical science is the interface between science and medicine. It is the science of how the body works and what goes wrong in disease and is the critical backbone of scientific developments and advances in medicine and healthcare.  

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science is a broad-based degree designed to offer a pathway to medicine, allied health and scientific research degrees. 

The program focusses on developing your understanding of the molecular, cellular, anatomical and physiological processes that occur in the human body. 

You’ll be working in the laboratories right from the first semester, analysing case studies and applying problem-solving techniques in a variety of clinical, research and allied healthcare settings. You’ll also develop important health communication skills.  

Studying in Bond’s trademark small classes, you’ll have extensive access to the very latest research equipment, under the supervision of our dedicated laboratory and research staff. 

Thanks to Bond’s trimester system, you can complete the Bachelor of Biomedical Science in just two years and progress seamlessly into our postgraduate health sciences programs, making this the fastest pathway to a career in Medicine, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy and Health Administration. This is also the only pathway into the Medical Program for international students.* 

Campus and Bond University Experience

For our Biomedical Science students, this means learning in small, discussion-based classes with world renowned academics and researchers, many of whom have developed their own exclusive-to-Bond teaching apps and programs. For instance, using Oculus Rift headsets to travel inside the brain and a hologram that allows you to walk around a 3D model of the human heart. You’ll also get hands-on with interactive human manikins that breathe and have a pulse; and specialist microscopes fitted with digital cameras. 

The new Health Sciences and Medicine building (Stage 2 opened in 2019) will be your home base at Bond with dedicated study areas, collaboration spaces and laboratories that you’ll have access to during and after class. The new building even has its own café. 

Further afield on campus, the team at the Career Development Centre will help strengthen your interpersonal and employability skills as well as helping you prepare for the job application and interview process. You’ll also be able to work on real-life projects of your own choosing under the guidance of academics and industry mentors in the Transformer program. 

Bond is renowned for its amazing student facilities and social activities, with a huge range of active student clubs, sporting teams, swimming pools, the aquatic centre, student gym, fitness and yoga classes, restaurants and cafes all right here on campus.

Year 12 students can be assessed now for a guaranteed offer for 2022 entry conditional on the completion of Year 12. Applications will be assessed based on their first semester Year 12 results and meeting any subject prerequisite requirements for their program.

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science is a 2-year accelerated degree that provides you with the ideal undergraduate foundation for a career in the health sciences. The program develops your knowledge in the molecular, cellular, anatomical, and physiological processes of the human body and prepares you for graduate-entry programs such as medicine and the allied health professions. The program will develop your knowledge and laboratory skills across a range of disciplines including anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, pharmacology, chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and microbiology. Extensive laboratory training from the first semester, as well as case studies and problem-solving techniques are applied within a variety of clinical, research, and allied health care settings. The program focuses on real-world learning, where you will gain exceptional, high-quality practical experience in our health science laboratories. You will be able to develop and master technical-scientific and research skills using some of the latest research equipment, from the very first semester. Due to Bond University’s small class sizes, you will be able to enjoy extensive use of this equipment and will be able to use the facilities outside of scheduled class times to further develop and refine your practical skills. Learning and teaching methodology

Students have the opportunity to develop and master technical scientific and research skills through extensive, hands-on laboratory training using some of the latest research equipment.

The educational approach involves a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, examinations, projects, presentations, assignments, laboratory work and industry projects. Students will participate in Problem Based Learning and practical laboratory experience from the first semester.

Students completing the Laboratory/ Research Major will have the opportunity to undertake a two-semester research project with Biomedical Science researchers at Bond University.

The below fees are based on the total estimated program fee divided by the number of standard full-time semesters required to complete the program. Fees may vary based on which subjects are selected and the number of subjects enrolled in for each semester.

Semester program fee:

  • Students commencing study in 2022: $15,800* per semester average
  • Students commencing study in 2023: $16,200* per semester average

Total program fee:

When considering the fees associated with your studies, keep in mind that Bond’s accelerated schedule means you can finish your degree sooner and be out in the workforce up to a year earlier than most other universities.

  • Mathematical Methods or Physics or equivalent (students without the equivalent of Mathematical Methods or Physics will be required to successfully complete a bridging subject in one of those disciplines).

Alternative entry pathways

For those applicants who do not currently have the required academic qualifications, there are a number of alternative entry pathways:

  • Bond University Tertiary Preparation programs
  • Bond University Diploma programs
  • Other institutional Tertiary Preparation Programs
  • Vocational education and training qualifications (Certificate IV and above)
  • Prior higher education experience (at this university or another)
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
  • Professional or para-professional qualifications/experience
  • Employment experience verified by a statement of service from the employer stating the position title and length of service and a very brief statement on the tasks undertaken.

English language proficiency requirements

Credit for prior study

Subject credits may be awarded for previous studies. To apply for credits, you will need to submit academic transcripts including detailed subject outlines/course descriptions for each relevant subject and/or certified copies of testamurs to the Office of Future Students. Please refer to how to apply for credit for more information

Successful graduates of this degree may be eligible to apply for the Bond University Bachelor of Medical Studies (Medical Program)*

* Domestic and international ~ students eligible to graduate from the Bachelor of Biomedical Science meeting the minimum required GPA will be eligible to be considered for selection to enter Year 2 of the Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt). The selection process will be based on GPA, psychometric testing and an interview. Places in Year 2 of the BMedSt for the graduates of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science are limited and dependant on availability. Applicants must meet the entry requirements for the BMedSt. 

Currently, this is the only pathway into the Bachelor of Medical Studies and Doctor of Medicine available to international students. Successful students will commence in Year 2 of the Bachelor of Medical Studies and will be allowed to progress to the Doctor of Medicine (MD).

Important note for international/overseas students
Students, including New Zealand citizens, who will not be Australian citizens or permanent residents at the time of enrolment, may not be automatically entitled to registration, internship, and access to a provider number in Australia. Graduates who wish to stay in Australia after graduation must make their own enquiries regarding their situation related to these matters as they lie beyond the control of the University.  In Australia, the number of internships is controlled by the Department of Health or Human Services in each state/territory and Australian citizens and permanent residents currently receive priority for internship places.  Graduates wishing to register in their home country or graduates wishing to practice medicine in countries other than Australia must contact the professional medical associations in that country to determine requirements to practice. Bond University is not responsible for organising any internship or medical registration of students upon their graduation.
