Real student support

Starting at university can be stressful, especially as an interstate or international student. Transitioning to the freedom and responsibility of the university environment can often be overwhelming. The Bond Business Mentoring Program provides new students with academic staff and senior student mentors in small groups, helping them meet new friends, transition into the Bond community and tap into the extensive resources available.

Mentoring sessions are held fortnightly on Wednesdays from 12pm to 1pm and cover a number of themes, including:

  • Using student email and online resources
  • Planning your study timetable
  • Joining student associations, clubs and events
  • Exam and presentation tips
  • Internships and work experience opportunities
  • Alumni mentoring
  • International exchanges
  • Beyond Bond support

For students who struggle in their first semester of study, the Bond Business School offers a pastoral care program to provide structured individual support on a fortnightly basis from semester two onwards. You will meet one-on-one with an academic mentor who will help you develop and monitor an individual action plan for your success. Academic learning support workshops are also provided to build academic skills.

International students are provided with an additional international mentor, who will support them with challenges relating to language or culture. You will be able to meet one-on-one with the international mentor at your discretion.

International students whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to attend the Intercultural Skills Workshop series. The Intercultural Skills Workshops aim to:

  • Improve your participation in classes and group activities
  • Help you familiarise yourself with Australian culture and behaviours
  • Develop your English language and communication skills
  • Give you the opportunity to meet new people from various cultures

In these workshops you will learn how to quickly prepare and deliver powerful presentations. Whether for business meetings, boardrooms, large audiences or within the classroom, these are extremely valued skills in the workplace and for your academic success.
