The Industry Advisory Committee for Sport Management provides independent regular feedback and advice on quality assurance and the overarching operational objectives for the Sport Management program.

Membership of the board includes internal and external stakeholders from both public and private sectors, and professional disciplines which have an affinity with the Sport Management program’s educational interests and aspirations. The vision in the formation of this Advisory Board is to deliver quality student learning outcomes. Individuals on the board are vastly experienced in the management of sport, and as a collective, represent the diversity of the sport sector.

Jane Barratt
Founder and CEO, GoldBean

Jane Barratt is the founder and CEO of GoldBean. She is a long-term investor and champion of financial literacy.

Prior to GoldBean, Ms Barratt spent 20 years driving growth for Fortune 500 companies, with a focus on technology and financial services. Her career at the forefront of the digital revolution included leading agencies and developing global and digital practices for Havas, Sapient, Young & Rubicam and Dentsu.

Ms Barratt, a Bond University alumna, has lived and worked in six different countries and is endlessly fascinated by the cultural differences when it comes to business, money and investing. Her courses on LinkedIn Learning have helped hundreds of thousands of people all over the world gain a deeper understanding of personal finance and investing.

David Baxby
CEO and Founder, RF Capital Private Equity; Chairman, Frontier Digital Ventures Limited;
Director, Virgin Australia Limited; Director, Velocity Frequent Flyer Limited

After 10 years with Goldman Sachs in London and Sydney, Mr Baxby joined Virgin Management in 2004 as the CEO of the Asia Pacific region. He was responsible for the Group’s investments in Virgin Mobile, Virgin Active, Virgin Money and Virgin Australia.

Mr Baxby moved to Shanghai in 2006 to establish a number of start-up businesses in the Asia Pacific region and in 2008 moved to Geneva to assume responsibilities for the Virgin Group’s investments in Aviation. In 2008 he joined the Board of Virgin Atlantic, Virgin America and Air Asia X and became Chairman of Virgin Unite in Australia, the Virgin Group’s charitable foundation.

In 2011 he was named the co-CEO of Virgin Group, with responsibility for all of Virgin Group's global investments. In 2014, Mr Baxby assumed the role of CEO and President of Global Blue, based in Switzerland, working for Silverlake and Partners Group.

The Bond University alumnus recently returned to the Asia Pacific region and is involved in a range of directorships and investments. He is married to Selina with three daughters Zara, Imogen and Amelia.

Jared Pohl
Co-Founder and Portfolio Manager, ECP Asset Management

Jared Pohl has more than a decade of experience in technology and investment in both public and private markets, locally and abroad. He is a co-founder of and portfolio manager at ECP Asset Management (“ECPAM”), managing more than $600 million for some of Australia’s most sophisticated investors. ECPAM can be characterised as an investor focused on high quality growth assets that exhibit sustainable competitive advantages.

Previously, Mr Pohl was part of the highly successful investment team at Hyperion Asset Management. Hyperion is one of Australia’s best-known investment managers, with assets in excess of $5 billion. They are one of the largest technology investors in the country and have been the recipient of numerous industry awards and accolades. In addition to his time at Hyperion, Mr Pohl spent time seconded to Wastach Advisors LLC in the USA, where he was a part of their private markets team, Cross Creek Advisors LLC.

Mr Pohl is an alumnus of Bond University and regularly presents on investment and entrepreneurship at universities and industry events.

Mark Sowerby
Founder, Blue Sky Alternative Investments Limited
Queensland Chief Entrepreneur, Office of the Queensland Chief Entrepreneur (OQCE)

Mark Sowerby is the founder of Blue Sky Alternative Investments Limited, an ASX listed (ASX: BLA) alternative asset manager investing across private equity, venture capital, private real estate, water, infrastructure, hedge funds and agriculture.

A decade after starting Blue Sky, Mr Sowerby handed the business over to the team to spend more time with his wife Heidi and his two sons, Lachlan and Patrick, and to help with projects that have a positive social impact.

At the time of his 'retirement' Blue Sky had a market capitalisation of more than $500 million, $2.4 billion under management, investment returns of 16.7% pa compounding and was amongst Australia’s top 300 listed companies.

In 2015, Mr Sowerby received the University of Queensland Vice-Chancellor’s Alumni Excellence Award, was recognised as Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Queensland and completed a successful swim crossing of the English Channel. Mr Sowerby serves on the Board of the Starlight Children’s Foundation and Racing Queensland and was recently appointed by the Premier as Queensland’s first Chief Entrepreneur.

Mr Sowerby is originally from Warren in western New South Wales, studying Agricultural Science at the University of Queensland before completing a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment through the Securities Institute of Australia and a Masters of Business Administration (at UQ).
