Clinical Education & Research Centre

About the centre

Bond University Clinical Education and Research Centre

Located on the ground floor of the Robina Hospital, the Clinical Education and Research Centre (CERC) is a collaborative project between Bond University's Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine and Queensland Health.

It provides a Simulated Learning Environment and is the first site in Queensland to achieve the highest level of accreditation as an affiliate 'skills centre' with Qld Health Skills Development Service.

The simulated learning facilities are housed within state-of-the-art clinical skills rooms which replicate the clinical environment through:

  • computerised simulation with real world clinical equipment
  • simulated patient actors
  • human patient simulators i.e. fully interactive mannequins that manifest physical signs and symptoms such breathing, heart sounds and pupil responses.

Training is located in the hospital - in a clinical environment with real-world hospital processes - that assists the transition of students to working with patients and clinical teams. Bond students and Robina Hospital staff participate in the care of patients suffering a diverse range of clinical problems, with the the aim of improving skills in patient assessment, communication, leadership and teamwork. Clinical teaching sessions include simulated patient ward rounds using this technology as well as audio-visual display, facilitated by both Bond academic staff and hospital clinicians.

This direct clinical exposure aims to deliver more skilled, more knowledgeable health and medical practitioners who can deliver high quality care and work as members of a healthcare team.

The Practitioner/Clinical Practice Domain sessions - ‘Patient: Assessment: Hospital Ward Visits’ and ‘Simulations’ for Year 3 students of Bond University's Medical program are held at the CERC every Tuesday, to ensure a smooth transition to clinical placements in hospitals in years 4 and 5.

The Centre is also being extended to Bond University's physiotherapy and nutrition staff and students.
