National High School Mooting Competition

Challenge yourself and hone your mooting skills

Hosted by the Bond University Faculty of Law, the National High School Mooting Competition is one of the oldest of its kind in Australia, and provides an unmatched opportunity for high school students from across the nation to build tangible legal skills. Battle it out with your peers, learn to formulate a bulletproof argument, and receive valuable feedback from real judges, barristers and legal experts with decades of combined industry knowledge.

The National High School Mooting Competition is open to students in Years 11 and 12 at Australian high schools, which are selected to contribute teams by invitation only. Over 100 schools have participated in past years of the competition, with many students going on to commence their studies at Bond, and to pursue brilliant careers in law. By entering the National High School Mooting competition, you’ll gain an array of valuable skills that will support your studies in law or any number of other disciplines, and will be eligible to apply for a 50 per cent scholarship to pursue a related degree at Bond University.

What is mooting?

Mooting is the oral presentation of a legal issue or problem against an opposing counsel and before a judge. It is perhaps the closest experience that a student can have to appearing in court. Moots are judged based on the advocacy skills of their participants – your ability to present clearly, construct an argument, outline facts and precedent cases and more – rather than the merits of the mock case itself.
