All applicants must provide formal documentary evidence of English language proficiency per the stated requirements below. If an applicant provides evidence that fits under more than one category, then the most recent evidence will be used for admission. This document is to be read in conjunction with the University academic entry requirements. Please go to the Handbook Part 2: Academic Regulations for more information on the academic and English language proficiency.

These entry requirements are correct as of April 2021 and are subject to change. These are presented as a guide only. Bond University reserves the right to make the final decision regarding admission to the University.

Applicants to programs that require registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) may need to meet additional requirements to be registered. 

Applicants that have successfully completed secondary education (equivalent to Australian Senior Certificate of Education) that was taught and assessed in English in one of the countries listed below where English is the first language:

2a. Successfully completed at least one year full-time equivalent at a post-secondary level (equivalent to an Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate IV or above) that was taught and assessed in English in one of the countries listed below where English is the first language (incomplete qualifications are only valid for 24 months):

  • American Samoa, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, Canada, Cameroon, Cook Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana*, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya*, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Maldives, Mauritius, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria*, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland), United States of America, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe

2b. For entry-to-programs with an IELTS of 6.5 or equivalent (not applicable-for-programs with an IELTS 7.0 or equivalent):

  • Applicants that have successfully completed at least one semester full-time equivalent; and
  • At any accredited onshore Australian University; and
  • At Australian Qualifications Framework Bachelor level or above. 

Incomplete qualifications are only valid for 24 months.

2c. Unless otherwise specified, letters confirming completion of undergraduate studies in an institution where English is the sole language of instruction and assessment-may-be considered. Acceptance of these letters will be at the discretion of Bond University.

4a. Study Abroad and Exchange, Undergraduate, Diploma and Foundation applicants

    • British Colombia Senior Secondary School Graduation Diploma a grade of 60% in the final year
  • Denmark – Studentereksamen: minimum grade of 4 in English A (oral and written) or a minimum grade of 7 in English B (oral and written) in the Upper Secondary School qualification STX, HHX, HTX or HFX (HF).
  • Finland – Lukionpaastotodistus: English grade of 8 or above in the Upper Secondary Examination.
  • Germany - Abitur: English grade of 3 or better (1 highest). DAAD test with an A or B (the top two levels) in each category OR a grade of 5 stars (*****) in each category.
  • Ghana^ – Grade of C6 or better from the West African Education Council (WAEC) or West African Senior School Certificate of Education (WASSCE).
  • Hong Kong^ – Diploma of Secondary Education: minimum grade of 4 in the subject, English. For Foundation and Diploma entry, Diploma of Secondary Education: minimum grade of 3 in the subject, English.
  • India
    • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) English subject grade of B1 or better (65% or greater);
    • Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) English subject grade of three or better (65% or greater);
    • English subject grade of 65% or greater for the following State Board Secondary Education exit awards:
      • Pre-University Certificate from the Karnataka Board of Pre-University Education
      • Higher Secondary certificate from the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education
      • Higher Secondary certificate from the Tamil Nadu Board of Higher Secondary Education
      • Higher Secondary Examination Certificate from Government of Kerala Board of Higher Secondary Examinations

^ Applicants who have completed schooling in Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, and Nigeria must have graduated high school within 24 months of commencing their program of study.

Applicants to undergraduate programs from overseas international secondary schools (Schools may be part of an international schools association such as www.cois.org or www.isaschools.org) where the full medium of instruction is English. For schools that are part of an accredited international association, the Language of Instruction may be verified on the school website.

For schools that are not members, then, the applicant will be required to submit a letter from the principal (or other relevant school authority staff member) certifying that English is the Language of Instruction unless evidence to that effect is located on the transcripts.

EAP 3

Where individual Bond University programs require an IELTS Academic result of 6.5 or less, an applicant may meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Level 3. Successful completion of the Bond University English Language Test (BELT) may also meet English language entrance requirements.

Students who attain a grade of Distinction or higher in EAP 3 will gain direct entry into University programs that have an entry requirement of IELTS Academic 7.0 (no band less than 6.5).

Programs requiring an IELTS Academic result of 7.0 (no band below 7.0) or higher, will require an approved English test to satisfy the English requirement for admission to the program. 

EAP 2

Where individual Bond University programs require an IELTS Academic result of 6.0 (no band less than 6.0) or less, an applicant may meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Level 2 with an overall grade of Credit or higher and also a Credit in the Reading and Writing final examinations. 

Where individual Bond University programs require an IELTS Academic result of 6.0 (no band less than 5.5) or less, an applicant may meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Level 2. 

EAP 1

Where individual Bond University programs require an IELTS result of 5.5 (no band less than 5.0) or less, an applicant meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Level 1. Successful completion of the Bond University English Language Test (BELT) may also meet English language entrance requirements.

English 7

Where individual Bond University programs require an IELTS Academic result of:

  • 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) or less, an applicant may meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College’s English Level 7;
  • 6.5 (6.5 in writing, no other band less than 6.0), an applicant may meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College’s English Level 7 with an overall grade of Credit or higher in the Writing final assessment;
  • 7.0 (no band less than 6.5), an applicant may meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College’s English Level 7 with attainment of a grade of Distinction or higher;
  • 7.0 (no band less than 7.0) or higher, will require an approved English test to satisfy the English language requirement for admission to the program.

English 6

Where individual Bond University programs require an IELTS Academic result of:

  • 6.0 (no band less than 5.5) or less, an applicant may meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College’s English Level 6;
  • 6.0 (no band less than 6.0) or less, an applicant may meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College’s English Level 6 with an overall grade of Credit or higher and also a Credit in the Reading and Writing final assessments.

English 5

Where individual Bond University programs require an IELTS Academic result of 5.5 (no band less than 5.0) or less, an applicant may meet this requirement by successfully completing Bond University College’s English Level 5.
