January semester (211)
The University plans to deliver on-campus and remote teaching in January Semester (211). However, the University understands that, for a variety of personal reasons, some students who are located overseas or interstate are unable to return to Queensland. For this reason the University will ensure that a remote learning option is available for all students who need it. Therefore, the teaching instruction for 211 will be delivered in a Multi-Modal format that supports all students in progressing their studies regardless of their physical location.

Yes, the University plans to accommodate all students whether they are learning on-campus or remotely. However, there are a few programs that have a heavy practical skills base where the most effective learning in specific subjects is achieved through in-person instruction. For those programs, it is difficult for continuing students to fully advance their studies at the requisite level solely through remote learning, and therefore they may need to complete catch-up practical classes and other activities on campus at a later date.
Enrolment through eStudent opened on Monday, 16 November 2020 for both commencing and continuing students.
Commencing students should finalise their enrolment prior to commencement.
The January semester will start on Monday 18 January 2021.
A normal 12-week teaching semester will follow.

Most assessments and exams will be completed online and have been designed to ensure both on campus and remote students can appropriately demonstrate their learning. Some limited exceptions may require students to complete assessment on campus or in a clinical setting. Please refer to individual subject assessment plans published in subject outlines.
Subjects that utilise specialised equipment and facilities will either be delivered later in the program or, in some instances, provided in an alternative format. You should contact your subject coordinator and review the subject outline if you have any further questions.

The University remains conscious of difficult financial circumstances that many students are facing. We have determined that the University will continue to support our students. For students commencing January 2021 the University has held the 2020 tuition fee amount in recognition of the current circumstances, with 2021 fees effective only from the University’s May 2021 semester.
Tuition fees are payable by Friday, 15 January 2021.

Most software for learning is already available for students to access both on and off campus (e.g. iLearn, eStudent, Student Portal, Library website, Office365 applications). For classes through Collaborate, you can join a session remotely directly from a web link provided by the lecturer or from your subject page in iLearn. You can also participate in Collaborate sessions in your on campus classroom. Copy your files to OneDrive: If you have critical files on your personal H:\ drive that you want to access remotely you should copy them over to Bond’s OneDrive file system, available at https://onedrive.bond.edu.au/.

You will be offered a number of different formats and ways of being assessed that will be appropriate for both on-campus and off-campus students. Online assessments can be submitted through the University iLearn platform and may include quizzes, assignments, exams, e-portfolios, group projects, simulations, live or pre-recorded presentations, video submissions or case studies.
Students that are currently enrolled in one of the subjects at Bond that requires access to any of the Adobe Creative Cloud applications will be provided access.
All clinical placements continue as scheduled unless the placement provider decides to suspend student access. In such cases, students that are impacted will be contacted individually and alternative arrangements made.
The University has been working closely with our clinical partners to minimise any health risk during placements. Students are not be required to attend placements if they are uncomfortable with the risks they face in that environment. In these circumstances please contact your program coordinator to discuss your concerns. While we will seek to provide alternative learning and assessment activities this may not always be possible and there could be an impact on your progression in your program.
Please ensure you do not attend placements if you are unwell, particularly if you are experiencing fever or respiratory symptoms. If you are not able to attend, follow usual sick leave processes to notify the relevant people.
If your placement is in a healthcare service, follow the advice of health authorities and your placement provider in terms of personal hygiene, including hand washing and coughing/sneezing etiquette, and follow the service’s protocols and procedures regarding the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
All students have access to use the study spaces open on campus, including the Main and Law Libraries, MLC, Business Commons and Building 5, HSM. Please swipe in using your student card.
Please bring your own headset if you are studying on campus and using Collaborate to join a class, in order to reduce noise levels in common study areas. Public health rules apply in study spaces on campus. Please see Health and Wellness.

In addition to the standard guidelines for the use of the rooms, COVID health and safety adjustments will be applicable to the use of all rooms across the campus.
Appointments with Academic Skills Centre staff can be made online, including free one-on-one help with organising your assignments, academic style, referencing, English, and maths.

The University is committed to doing everything it can to minimise any disruption to your studies caused by the pandemic by providing individualised support plans for impacted students.
If your studies have been impacted by coronavirus (COVID-19) you should:
- Contact your lecturer or the Associate Dean (Student Affairs & Service Quality) in your Faculty about ways to minimise the disruption to your studies.

The Career Development Centre is providing ongoing support to all students and alumni in person if you are on campus or virtually via phone, Teams/Zoom or email.
We continue to offer students and alumni personalised support for your career progression from graduate to employment. These consultations can focus on assisting you with identifying your career goals, and developing strategies and opportunities in the current market.
The Business Development team is in regular contact with our industry partners and, when needed, have adapted placements to suit students and employers based on workplaces and opportunities. Medical and counselling services will continue to be available on a bulk-billing basis for eligible students and where possible has been expanded to allow remote (tele health) consultations.
The University is acutely aware of the importance of Graduation Day. They are liminal moments that represent the culmination of years of hard work and application.
Bond University will hold in-person on campus ceremonies this year. We believe it important for as many students as possible to experience their own graduation in front of friends and family However, any changes to COVID-19 related health and travel restrictions may necessitate a changes to the venue or program. We will notify you if the situation changes.
For offshore students who are unable to attend a ceremony in 2021, the Vice Chancellor has extended an invitation to attend a later in-person ceremony when international border restrictions relax.

Firstly – for the 211 semester a number of face to face experiences are being offered. Including the Professional Development workshop series, The Unfair Advantage Public Speaking and Presentation Workshop series or the Intercultural Communication Skills Workshop series. Register for a face to face workshop via the SCOUT portal. On completion you will earn 10pts. Look out for these and other opportunities through your Beyond Bond iLearn site.
Secondly – if you are seeking remote or online experiences to help earn your Beyond Bond requirements, go into the Beyond Bond iLearn site and view the Elective Units tab on the menu bar and explore the range of activities to earn Beyond Bond points. There are a number of eligible experiences for students to explore for points. These include online experiences such as;
- Online and Virtual industry based projects or work experiences
- Online Mock Interviews through SCOUT or
- Completion of the online Digital Literacy Program and Core Information Skills activities offered through the Bond Library and accessed via the Beyond Bond Menu Bar (Bond Library Online Programs).
- Disrupted Futures (See Career Development template for details)
Don’t forget too that some of subjects might be pre-approved for Beyond Bond points. These have the Beyond Bond logo against eligible subjects, and students can reflect on these for points. Housing (on-campus student residences)

Due to the Queensland Government state border controls some students may not be able to travel to campus. Furthermore, movement and gathering restrictions see website may place some limitations around the campus and in student residences.
A limited number of rooms for on campus accommodation will be available for the January Semester (211). To comply with current health restrictions, single occupancy room with ensuite will be available. Single room shared facilities located within buildings 11 and 12 will also be available with reduced student capacity in each corridor. These will be maintained under an increased cleaning regime to comply with COVID-19 guidelines.

All international travel for study has been suspended.
Any request for international travel approval will not be considered until after this directive is lifted. After that date, applications will be reviewed centrally and assessed according to the nature and risk-profile of the travel itinerary. There is currently a ban on overseas travel from Australia. You are unable to leave Australia unless you get an exemption form the Department of Home Affairs.

The Australian Government has announced that all borders are closed to non-citizens and non-residents from Friday, 20 March 2020.
Self-quarantine for international travellers returning from overseas
Australian citizens and permanent residents and those exempt from the new entry restrictions are still subject to a compulsory 14-day self-quarantine period, regardless of where they are travelling from.
Events are proceeding on campus, however each event needs approval before proceedings. All events must comply with the Queensland Government COVID Safe Events Checklist requirements. As circumstances surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic develop quickly, we continually monitor all event details and will respond accordingly should circumstances change at any time in order to protect the health of our event attendees and community. Unfortunately, this may require us to change some events plans at short notice. In those circumstances, we will do our very best to keep everybody who is impacted fully informed.
The University continually review all of its major events and we will host events where possible and in compliance with the Government guidelines.

Health and wellness
The University has set up a Coronavirus Response Team to monitor all aspects of the situation and ensure the health and safety of our community. The team is taking regular advice from the relevant Federal and State government agencies. Up-to-date information is published on this webpage.
Strict protocols have been put in place to ensure that individuals who are at-risk of carrying the COVID-19 coronavirus are separated from the University community.
Bond University has implemented additional protocols and procedures including:
- Elevation of hygiene procedures around food & beverage outlets
- Continuation of the review of large gatherings and particularly those that involve external visitors
- Further protective protocols in our Medical Centre.
- Promoting healthy personal hygiene habits as advised by health experts and introducing other practical measures, including the installation of hand sanitiser units throughout the campus and antiseptic wipes in busy shared facilities. All students and staff are asked to take additional care at this time.
Yes. We have had precautionary policies and procedures in place since January 2020 to minimise the risk of exposure to our community and we continue to monitor the situation carefully.
We ask all members of our community to remain vigilant, behave responsibly and support their fellow students and colleagues.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea.
These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don't feel unwell.
Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. Around 1 out of every 6 people who gets COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and develops difficulty breathing.
Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness. People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention.

Physical distancing is important because coronavirus (COVID-19) is most likely to spread from person-to-person through:
- Direct close contact with a person while they are infectious or in the 24 hours before their symptoms appeared
- Contact with droplets from a confirmed person's cough or sneeze, or
- Touching objects or surfaces (such as door handles or tables) contaminated from a cough or sneeze from a person with a confirmed infection, and then touching your mouth or face.
So, the more space between you and others, the harder it is for the virus to spread.
Here are some ways to stop or slow the spread of infection:
- If you are sick, stay away from others
- Where practical, stay more than 1.5 metres from others
- Sanitise your hands when entering and leaving buildings
- Regularly clean and disinfect high touch surfaces
- Use tap and pay rather than handling money
- Try and travel at quiet times and try to avoid crowds and open vehicle windows where possible.
Students can help by:
- Observing simple personal hygiene to reduce exposure to illness - as per the World Health Organization Novel Coronavirus advice for the public
- Staying at home when you are unwell
- Avoiding large public gatherings
- Keeping a distance of 1.5 metres between you and other people where possible
- Minimising physical contact, especially with people at higher risk such as older people and people with existing health conditions
- Ensuring your personal contact details (including mobile number and emergency contacts) are up-to-date in eStudent.
