BUHMUN inspiring the leaders of tomorrow

A message from the BUHMUN 2020 Secretary General

The Annual Bond University High School Model UN (BUHMUN)

Model UN Refugee Challenge

We are thrilled to be able to announce our participation in the MUN Refugee Challenge being organised by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). The MUN Refugee challenge recognises that worldwide, 70.8 million people have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict, violence, and persecution. We at Bond University, along with the UNHCR, firmly believe that young people, your students, have a central role to play in finding ways to help them thrive, not just survive. The details for BUHMUN 2020 are below, and the positions will be limited. At this stage, we will only be taking delegations of four students per high school; however, we may be able to expand this closer to the date.

  • What: The 2020 Bond University High School Model United Nations
  • When: October 30th, 2020
  • Why: To provide a forum for the future leaders of tomorrow to debate issues being faced by refugees the world over.
  • Cost: $0

  • Countering toxic narratives about refugees and migrants
  • Improving access to education for refugees

The resolutions that your students contribute to will eventually be put before a jury that is composed of UNHCR members, young refugee leaders, and independent experts. The jury will decide on the most substantial resolutions and announce awards in 2021 before sharing the best ideas with policymakers and promoting them on the UNHCR’s social media.

The primary objective of BUHMUN is to inspire and shape the future leaders of tomorrow.

For the last three years, Bond University's Faculty of Society & Design has been pleased to host the Bond University High School Model United Nations (BUHMUN) Conference on the Gold Coast, Australia. BUHMUN is Australia’s first University run High School Model UN conference. A Model UN, or MUN, is a simulation-based learning exercise that will see student delegates adopt the persona of an allocated country and subsequently represent that country during a simulation of UN proceedings.

We look forward to welcoming back to Bond University for the 2020 BUHMUN Conference!
