2021 BUHMUN Program

BUHMUN inspiring the leaders of tomorrow

The Annual Bond University High School Model UN (BUHMUN)

The primary objective of BUHMUN is to inspire and shape the future leaders of tomorrow.

For the last three years, Bond University's Faculty of Society & Design has been pleased to host the Bond University High School Model United Nations (BUHMUN) Conference on the Gold Coast, Australia. BUHMUN is Australia’s first University run High School Model UN conference. A Model UN, or MUN, is a simulation-based learning exercise that will see student delegates adopt the persona of an allocated country and subsequently represent that country during a simulation of UN proceedings.

We are thrilled to be able to announce our participation once again in the MUN Refugee Challenge being organised by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). The MUN Refugee challenge recognises that worldwide, 70.8 million people have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict, violence, and persecution. At Bond University, along with the UNHCR, we firmly believe that young people, your students, have a central role to play in finding ways to help them thrive, not just survive.

We look forward to welcoming back to Bond University for the 2021 BUHMUN Conference! Taking place on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th of May 2021. We are are excited to announce our Keynote Speaker for BUHMUN 2021, Women 20 (W20) Australian Representative, Professor Caitlin Byrne. The W20 is the official G20 engagement group focused on gender equity.

Behind the scenes of a Bond Model UN conference

You might have heard the term ‘Model UN’ name-dropped in movies or talked about around campus, but what exactly is it? Also known as Model United Nations, and often abbreviated to ‘MUN’, it refers to a simulated United Nations conference where delegates (AKA students) debate for the best interests of their nominated country.

To give us some insight into MUNs, we’ve enlisted the help of experienced MUNer Crystal – keep reading as she delves into this exciting and fast-paced world.
