Welcome to Bond

You may not be on campus yet, but you are now officially part of the Bond community. We can’t wait to bring Orientation to you – wherever you are in the world. 

Orientation is a series of events and activities to introduce you to Bond, your academics, classmates and key support staff. On this page, you will find lots of resources to help you settle in and start the semester strong, as well as a schedule of events for Orientation Week. You are also invited to join the 221 Bondies Facebook group, so you can start to connect with your fellow classmates before the semester begins.

Whether you are studying on campus or remotely, you must upload your photo to the CaptureME portal. Your photo will be used for identification purposes on Bond's Student Learning Management System (iLearn), and for your student ID card. If you are studying remotely, you can collect your ID card when you are able to arrive on campus. You will not need it beforehand.

If you are living on campus, attending on-campus classes and/or require access to on-campus facilities (e.g. library, Multimedia Learning Centre, Sports Centre), you will require a student ID card.  Once your photo has been approved through CaptureME, you can collect your Student ID card from Student Assist in the main library (BLD01_2_53) on Monday - Friday between 8.30am and 5pm AEST during Orientation Week.

Attending Orientation on campus or remotely

Wherever you're starting the semester from, you will be part of the Bond Orientation experience. While most sessions will take place on campus, if you're not based on the Gold Coast, you will join Orientation sessions through one of our remote learning platforms, Collaborate or Zoom. You will need to activate your IT account to access these sessions. Please refer to the schedule below to see which platform each session will be hosted on.

All sessions will be held in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). For our international Bondies, most sessions will be recorded and able to view at a later time.

To access Collaborate sessions from overseas or interstate: 

1. Log into iLearn (you must activate your IT account first)
2. Click on ‘Communities’ on the left-hand side
3. Select ‘221 Orientation’ (or 'FSD Orientation' for Faculty of Society & Design students)
4. Select ‘Join Session’ under ‘Blackboard Collaborate’
(Note - sessions will only be visible at the scheduled time/date - not before)

To access Collaborate session recordings: 

1. Follow steps 1 to 3 above 
2. Click on the 3 black dots next to 'Blackboard Collaborate'
3. Click on 'View all recordings' 
(Note - session recordings appear approximately 20 minutes after the session has concluded)

To access Zoom sessions from overseas or interstate:

1. Log into iLearn (you must activate your IT account first)

If you are able to join us on campus, we encourage you to do so, and we look forward to welcoming you in January!

Don't forget that you will need your student ID to access some buildings on campus, borrow library books and more (required for on-campus students only). Once you have completed enrolment you can upload a photo for your student ID card via the CaptureME portal and then collect your ID during Orientation.

If you need any help finding your way around, see our tips below or visit the friendly staff and Student Ambassadors at our Orientation Information Hub, located near the Main Library, between 9am - 12pm on Tuesday to Thursday during Orientation.

If you aren't able to travel to campus, don't worry! You will be able to join most sessions remotely and many will be recorded for playback via iLearn at a time that suits you.

Essential information

Welcome to Bond! Starting at a new university presents lots of unique challenges, from how to get from A to B, to getting in the swing of study and campus life. We want to help - here's everything you need to know. 

Learn more about...

At Bond, we refer to each semester with a three-digit number. This semester is 221. To work out the semester number, take the last two digits of the year (e.g. 2022 - '22') and the number of the semester (we're in semester 1, so use '1'). The following semester will be 222, and the last semester of this year will be 223. Your first lesson as a Bondy, sorted! 

Ready for your brand-new email address? If you haven't done so already, make sure you activate your Student IT account! Simply accept the terms and conditions and create a new password - then you will be all set to access your email and our network.

It won’t take long for Bond to feel like home. But, so you can settle in sooner, we’ve got some handy tips and tricks to help you navigate your first week.

Reading room numbers

Bond’s rooms are labelled in the order of building number, then level, then room number. For example, 06_02_01 indicates Building 6, Level 2, Room 1.

MazeMap – your virtual guide

Need directions? There’s an app for that! MazeMap is Bond’s virtual map, where you can find your way around Bond’s main campus and Institute of Health and Sport by simply searching for a location, then selecting ‘directions’. The app will use your current location to guide you to where you need to go.

Feeling lost?

The Orientation Information Hub located near the Main Library will be open from 9am - 12pm on Tuesday to Thursday during O-Week, so please visit the friendly staff and Student Ambassadors if you need assistance. Use this link to find the Info Hub.

Bond University has an online system to register your vehicle for a parking permit. Fines will be issued if you have not registered your vehicle.

Car parking for enrolled students is free where users park in accordance with the terms and conditions of use as displayed on entries to the University and on the Parking webpage.

If you are living on campus, attending on-campus classes and/or require access to on-campus facilities (e.g. library, Multimedia Learning Centre, Sports Centre), you will require a student ID card. Begin by uploading your photo to the CaptureME portal. You will be notified by email once your photo has been approved and your Student ID card is ready for collection at Student Assist, located in the Main Library (BLD01_2_53). You can collect your ID Monday - Friday between 8.30am and 5pm AEST during Orientation week. 

If studying remotely and not attending campus, you must also upload your photo to the CaptureME portal. Your photo will be used for identification purposes on Bond's Student Learning Management System (iLearn). You can then collect your ID card when you are able to arrive on campus, you will not need it beforehand.

Textbooks will be listed in your subject outline, which can be found on your subject's iLearn site, or by searching for your subject. The Library has many, but not all, of the prescribed textbooks available as ebooks. Others are available as print books in the Reserve collections if you are able to get to campus. Check with your lecturer to determine whether it's necessary to have your own copy of the textbook.

Medical services and counselling

The Medical Clinic is a facility for currently enrolled students and staff members of Bond. The clinic bulk bills and is open from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 5pm.

Sports Centre

The Sports Centre is a facility for currently enrolled students and staff members at Bond. Students have free access to the Sports Centre and other on-campus exercise and sporting facilities, including the pool. Be sure to activate your Student ID Card at the Sports Centre for access to the gym and facilities.

Bond University has recently launched an exciting new mentoring and tutoring program called Limitless Learning. All students can access this program via the app or website to unlock social connection opportunities and to receive academic support and tutoring. Limitless Learning also encompasses the Indigenous Tutor Scheme wherein Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies enrolled in award studies can access personalised tutoring.
