COVID-19 (coronavirus): Latest advice for the Bond community.

Bringing Orientation to you

Welcome to Bond

You may not be on campus yet, but you are now officially part of the Bond community. We can’t wait to bring Orientation to you – wherever you are in the world.

Orientation is a series of events and activities to introduce you to Bond, your academics, classmates and key support staff. On this page, you will find lots of resources to help you settle in and start the semester strong, as well as a schedule of events for Orientation Week. You are also invited to join the 222 Bondies Facebook group, so you can start to connect with your fellow classmates before the semester begins.

Whether you are studying on campus or remotely, you must upload your photo to the CaptureME portal. Your photo will be used for identification purposes on Bond's Student Learning Management System (iLearn), and for your student ID card. If you are studying remotely, you can collect your ID card when you are able to arrive on campus. You will not need it beforehand.

If you are living on campus, attending on-campus classes and/or require access to on-campus facilities (e.g. library, Multimedia Learning Centre, Sports Centre), you will require a student ID card.  Once your photo has been approved through CaptureME, you can collect your Student ID card from Student Assist in the main library (BLD01_2_53) on Monday - Friday between 8.30am and 5pm AEST during Orientation Week.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bond in Orientation week.

Attending Orientation on campus or remotely

Wherever you're starting the semester from, you will be part of the Bond Orientation experience. While most sessions will take place on campus, if you're not based on the Gold Coast, you will join Orientation sessions through one of our remote learning platforms, Collaborate or Zoom. You will need to activate your IT account to access these sessions. Please refer to the schedule below to see which platform each session will be hosted on.

All sessions will be held in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). For our international Bondies, most sessions will be recorded and able to view at a later time.

1. Log into iLearn (you must activate your IT account first)
2. Click on ‘Communities’ on the left-hand side
3. Select ‘222 Orientation’ (or 'FSD Orientation' for Faculty of Society & Design students)
4. Select ‘Join Session’ under ‘Blackboard Collaborate’

Experiencing technical problems?

Don’t panic. Call the IT Service Desk on +61 7 5595 4444 Monday - Friday between 8am and 5pm AEST, or send them an email at any time on [email protected]

If you are able to join us on campus, we encourage you to do so, and we look forward to welcoming you in May!

Don't forget that you will need your student ID to access some buildings on campus, borrow library books and more (required for on-campus students only). Once you have completed enrolment you can upload a photo for your student ID card via the CaptureME portal and then collect your ID during Orientation.

If you need any help finding your way around, see our tips below or visit the friendly staff and Student Ambassadors at our Orientation Information Hub, located near the Main Library.

If you aren't able to travel to campus, don't worry! You will be able to join most sessions remotely and many will be recorded for playback via iLearn at a time that suits you.

Essential information

Welcome to Bond! Starting at a new university presents lots of unique challenges, from how to get from A to B, to getting in the swing of study and campus life. We want to help - here's everything you need to know.

Learn more about...

At Bond, we refer to each semester with a three-digit number. This semester is 222. To work out the semester number, take the last two digits of the year (e.g. 2022 - '22') and the number of the semester (we're in semester 2, so use '2'). The following semester will be 223. Your first lesson as a Bondy, sorted!

Bond’s rooms are labelled in the order of building number, then level, then room number. For example, 06_02_01 indicates Building 6, Level 2, Room 1.

Once you know the formula, you’ll never get lost again. Check out the online campus map to see all the building numbers and their locations. Download a printable map here

MazeMap – your virtual guide

Need directions? There’s an app for that! MazeMap is Bond’s virtual map, where you can find your way around Bond’s main campus and Institute of Health and Sport by simply searching for a location, then selecting ‘directions’. There is no day-to-day uniform necessary for university - you're welcome to dress in what makes you feel comfortable, confident and ready to take on your studies! We find most of our students wear neat, comfortable attire, noting that for some programs, there may be instructions to wear more specific items of clothing. For example, students might be asked to wear enclosed shoes and lab coats when learning in laboratories or formal wear including a suit jacket when practising in the moot courts for law.

We also have many students who love to wear the Bond University brand out and about. Drop into the Merchandise Store on campus to see our range of t-shirts, hoodies, gym bags, watches, cufflinks and other branded items.

At Bond, one thing drives everything we do: you - our students! We’re here to lend a hand with anything you need, from Indigenous, international, disability and LGBTIQ support through to academic services and career development assistance.

The therapy rooms provide an open, safe and confidential space that enables psychologists to assist with clinical and non-clinical issues, which students may have found difficult to deal with alone. Our counsellors are also available for appointments via Microsoft Teams, Skype and Phone consultations if required. The Psychological Services can assist with referrals to external providers if needed. Psychological Services are located in the Medical Clinic and are open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5pm.
