Bringing Orientation to you

Welcome to Bond

You may not be on campus yet, but you are now officially part of the Bond community. We can’t wait to bring Orientation to you – wherever you are in the world.

Orientation is a series of events and activities to introduce you to Bond, your academics, classmates and key support staff. On this page, you will also find lots of resources to help you settle in and start the semester strong, as well as a schedule of events.

If you are physically coming to campus in September, you will need to upload your photo and collect your Student ID card from Student Assist in the Main Library during Orientation.

Attending Orientation on campus or remotely

Wherever you're starting the semester from, you will be part of the Bond Orientation experience. While most sessions will take place on campus, if you're not based on the Gold Coast, you will join Orientation sessions through Bond’s remote learning platform, Collaborate. You will need to activate your IT account to access Collaborate.

All sessions will be held in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). For our international Bondies, most sessions will be recorded and able to view at a later time.

To access Collaborate sessions from overseas or interstate:

1. Log into iLearn (you must activate your IT account first)
2. Click on ‘Communities’ on the left-hand side
3. Select ‘213 Orientation’ (or 'HSM Orientation' for Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine students or 'FSD Orientation' for Faculty of Society & Design students)
4. Select ‘Join Session’ under ‘Blackboard Collaborate’
(Note - session will only be visible at the scheduled time/date - not before)

To access session recordings:

1. Follow steps 1 to 3 above
2. Click on the 3 black dots next to 'Blackboard Collaborate'
3. Click on 'View all recordings'
(Note - session recordings appear approximately 20 minutes after the session has concluded)

Experiencing technical problems?

Don’t panic. Call the IT Service Desk on +61 7 5595 4444 Monday - Friday between 8am and 5pm AEST, or send them an email at any time on [email protected]

If you are able to join us on campus, we encourage you to do so, and we look forward to welcoming you in September!

Don't forget that you will need your student ID to access some buildings on campus, borrow library books and more (required for on-campus students only). Once you have completed enrolment you can upload a photo for your student ID card via the CaptureME portal and then collect your ID during Orientation.

If you need any help finding your way around, see our tips below or visit the friendly staff and Student Ambassadors at our Orientation Information Hub, located near the Main Library, between 8.30am - 4.30pm during Orientation.

If you aren't able to travel to campus, don't worry! You will be able to join most sessions remotely and many will be recorded for playback via iLearn at a time that suits you.

A helping hand

At Bond, one thing drives everything we do: you - our students! We’re here to lend a hand with anything you need, from enrolling through to IT, counselling and even your assignments.

At Bond, we refer to each semester with a three-digit number. This semester is 213. To work out the semester number, take the last two digits of the year (e.g. 2021 - '21') and the number of the semester (we're in semester 3, so use '3'). The following semester will be the first semester of 2022, so it will be 221, and the second semester of that year will be 222. Your first lesson as a Bondy, sorted!

Ready for your brand-new email address? If you haven't done so already, make sure you activate your Student IT account! Simply accept the terms and conditions and create a new password - then you will be all set to access your email and our network.

It won’t take long for Bond to feel like home. But, so you can settle in sooner, we’ve got some handy tips and tricks to help you navigate your first week.

Reading room numbers

Bond’s rooms are labelled in the order of building number, then level, then room number. For example, 06_02_01 indicates Building 6, Level 2, Room 1.

Once you know the formula, you’ll never get lost again. Check out the online campus map to see all the building numbers and their locations. Download a printable map here

MazeMap – your virtual guide

Need directions? There’s an app for that! MazeMap is Bond’s virtual map, where you can find your way around Bond’s main campus and Institute of Health and Sport by simply searching for a location, then selecting ‘directions’. The app will use your current location to guide you to where you need to go.

Bond University has provided Booktopia, an Australian online bookstore, with details of the prescribed textbooks for your subjects. Check the Booktopia Textbook Finder to see the details and buy a copy of your textbooks. Of course, you are welcome to buy your textbooks elsewhere, but be sure to check all the details to be certain that you are buying the correct ones! Not all textbooks are available from Booktopia and delivery is only within Australia and New Zealand. If your subject is not listed, please check the prescribed texts with your Lecturer.

The Library has many, but not all of the prescribed textbooks available as e-books. Others are available as print books in the Reserve collections if you are able to get to campus. Check with your Lecturer to determine whether it's necessary to have your own copy of the textbook.
