5D-BIM (Cost Modelling)

Improve upon your Building Information Modelling (BIM) knowledge with 5D-BIM (Cost Modelling).

This microcredential addresses cost planning, estimating, lifecycle costing and cost management using BIM-related Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery techniques.

It is taught in a highly interactive manner and is dedicated to interrogating aspects of BIM IT platforms in a manner that informs learners how to utilise available BIM information better, and to prepare accurate project cost plans and estimates during the project phases defined by the buildingSMART Australasia BIM framework. The subject allows students the opportunity to prepare and refine project estimates / cost plans that align with the BIM framework phases, and with a focus on Lean approaches to construction.  

5D-BIM (Cost Modelling) is one of twelve specialised BIM microcredentials available. 

Meet your course instructor

David Mitchell

David is the Director of buildingSMART Australasia. David was the founder of QSx Technologies and Mitchell Brandtman 5D Quantity Surveyors, a firm that provides 5D quantity surveying and construction expert opinion. He is also a member of the leadership committee for Collaborate-ANZ. 

With 34 years of industry experience in building, civil, heavy engineering and resources, and a family background in construction consulting, he is known for approaching technology integration in a strategic and innovative way. He believes in open leadership, technology and the collective ability to create positive industry change. David’s BIM vision is to promote a holistic and in-depth understanding of BIM to shape opportunities for positive industry change.

    • This microcredential aligns with the 5-credit point subject, 5D-BIM (Cost Modelling) (SSUD-305), in the Master of Building Information Modelling and Integrated Project Delivery. The microcredential may qualify for credit towards a Bond University program.
  • This microcredential is aimed at professionals in architecture, project management, construction, valuation and property development, city planning or related fields with an interest developing skills in cost planning, estimating, lifecycle costing and cost management using BIM related Lean Construction and Integrated Project.
