Students must complete the following sixty credit points (60CP) of subjects.
GDLP Learning Intensive introduces Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice students to professional legal training, providing a framework for the coursework component of the program and also allows students the opportunity to practice new skills in preparation for the practical experience component. The subject is offered as a one week learning intensive at the start of the semester. The intensive is delivered over five days with a series of workshops.

The aim of this subject is to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge required to conduct commercial transactions, such as the purchase of a business, on behalf of a client and provide advice on revenue implications in such transactions, as well as financing options.

The aim of this subject is to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge required to convey, lease and mortgage real property and provide general advice on standard matters arising under local government, planning, environmental or other legislation relating to land use.

The aim of this subject is to equip students with the skills and knowledge to maintain accurate trust and general account records and to act ethically, professionally and responsibly in dealings with clients, the courts, the community and other legal professionals. Students will engage in practical exercises including preparing trust and general accounting documents and will reflect on ethical responsibilities by addressing current ethical issues and disciplinary cases.

This is a practical based subject which will allow students to apply the necessary skills and knowledge required to conduct a civil litigation matter. Students will draft litigious and non-litigious documents, participate in alternative dispute resolution and will observe the presentation of evidence in a court setting.

Students will undertake a placement in a legal services environment under the supervision of an experienced legal practitioner. They will interact with legal professionals; legal support staff, Government officers and clients and critically reflect on their placement experience.
Read moreThis is a compulsory subject in the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (ONLINE and On-campus) which provides students with the knowledge and skills required to make a successful transition from their legal studies to legal professional practice. In this subject, students will critically reflect upon aspects of legal practice related to their participation during placement. Students will have the opportunity to reflect upon and critically evaluate those aspects of legal practice which they have observed and/or participated in during their period(s) of placement.

Law Placement 2 is an elective subject in the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (ONLINE and On-campus) for students who wish to undertake a further 30 days of supervised practical experience. As in Law Placement 1, students undertake a placement in a legal services environment under the supervision of an experienced legal practitioner. They interact with legal professionals; legal support staff, Government officers and clients at intervals throughout the placement period and prepare a journal reflecting upon the additional experiences which they have had, as well as preparing a critical reflection upon the overall placement experience.

This subject focusses on developing students with skills in providing advice to clients before arrest; making bail applications and pleas in mitigation; appearing in minor contested hearings; preparation of cases for trial and post-trial processes.

This subject focusses on providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to act for family law clients. This includes matters involving the care and maintenance of children and the determination of property and financial entitlements. Students will engage in family law practice, become familiar with the family law legislation and procedures and draft relevant documents.

This subject focusses on providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to act for clients in relation to wills and estate administration. Students will engage in aspects of wills and estate law practice, become familiar with the legislation and procedures and draft relevant documents.
