How do automatic loan renewals and recalls work?

Most library loans will automatically renew, making it easier to keep items for as long as you need them. However, if another borrower requests an item you have on loan, it may be recalled and given a new due date.

How automatic renewals work

Your loans will automatically renew the day before they are due if:

  • No one else has requested the item
  • The item has not reached its maximum loan period

You don't need to do anything. Eligible items will renew automatically and your due dates will be updated in your library account.

Each Monday, you'll receive a Library Activity Statement by email showing your current loans and due dates.

Check your loans anytime

To view your current loans and due dates:

  1. Sign in to Library Search
  2. Click on My Library Activity in the user menu
  3. Select the Loans option
  4. Review your due dates and renewal status

You can also manually renew eligible items from this page.

What happens if an item is recalled?

A recall occurs when another student or staff member requests an item you currently have on loan.

When this happens:

  • You'll receive an automatic email notification and a MyBond app notification.
  • The item's due date will be shortened.
  • You must return the item by the new due date, usually within 7 days of the recall notice.

Recalls help ensure fair access to high-demand materials, including textbooks and prescribed readings.
