What is the difference between advanced standing and credit?

The term advanced standing and credit are often used interchangeably in universities. Advanced standing is the recognition of previous successful study which may be relevant and may be applied to your current program. These studies are then credited to your current program and could reduce the number of subjects you need to complete in your current program.

This should not be confused with “Exemption”. This is when a student is not required to enrol in a compulsory subject based on extensive relevant experience. An exemption does not reduce the overall number of subjects required for the program. The compulsory subject must be replaced with an alternative subject.
