Building Information Modelling Microcredentials

Whether you’re looking to upskill, advance your career, change direction or dive deeper into a specific area, Bond University offers a range of executive training and professional development courses to help you get ahead.

The Queensland, Victorian and New South Wales Government has committed to spending $215 billion on infrastructure development within a Building Information Modelling framework in the coming years. Further, the Queensland Government recently decided that all infrastructure projects costing more than $50m are to be delivered using Building Information Modelling.

This is just one indicator that the design and delivery of construction and infrastructure projects is moving to another level, and that means opportunity can be expected to increase.

Our new Building Information Modelling microcredentials allow you to enrol as a Bond student for one semester, attend classes on-campus, collaborate with current Bond students, and learn in a highly interactive environment whilst gaining an authentic university experience. Upon successful completion, you'll receive an official university transcript as well as credit points that can be put towards future study.

Designed in strong collaboration with industry, these microcredentials assist construction and other built environment professionals to upskill in order to comply with the stringent practice requirements being demanded by government and knowledgeable private sector clients - awarding you with a competitive edge in the industry.

Foundations of Intelligent Construction (OpenBIM)

This introductory microcredential addresses the core principles of BIM, Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery. It is taught in a highly interactive environment and covers BIM principles in a manner that equips students to sit for the buildingSMART International endorsed individual assessment of knowledge-based BIM learning.

3D-BIM (Modelling for Data and Visualisation)

This microcredential introduces the concepts of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). It also covers various software platforms suitable for openBIM application, and appropriate for Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery. This subject is dedicated to covering BIM-related software platforms and their integration in accordance with openBIM principles.

4D-BIM (Schedule Optimisation)

This microcredential addresses schedule preparation and management using BIM-related Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery techniques. It is dedicated to aspects of interrogating BIM IT platforms to better prepare useful project schedules that align with and include all aspects of the project phases as defined by the buildingSMART Australasia BIM framework.

5D-BIM (Cost Modelling)

This microcredential addresses cost planning, estimating, lifecycle costing and cost management using BIM-related Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery techniques. It is dedicated to aspects of interrogating BIM IT platforms to prepare accurate project cost plans and estimates during the project phases defined by the buildingSMART Australasia BIM framework.

6D-BIM (Environment Sustainability Assessment)

This course teaches about essential environmental sustainability assessment tools used in the openBIM environment, and on completion of the course, will have a good understanding of energy performance analyses, carbon omission analyses, solar radiation and lighting analyses, natural ventilation system analyses and water acoustics analyses, as well as thermal comfort control and acoustics analyses.

7D-BIM (Facilities Management)

In their most advanced application, collaborative openBIM project teams require the involvement of facilities managers from as early as possible in the design phase of major projects in particular. This course will prepare you to make intelligent design decisions based on, inter alia, facilities management information that optimizes practical and cost aspects of long-term operational factors.

Intellectual Property Rights (Data Exchange)

This subject provides useful knowledge regarding a range of Intellectual Property rights that may be encountered in a construction environment involving openBIM and IPD. It also covers the impacts of BIM/Lean/IPD on contract administration, including an understanding of clauses professionals should have in contracts to avoid the pitfalls.

BIM and BIG DATA (Geographical Information Systems (GIS)) 

The BIM and BIG DATA (Geographical Information Systems (GIS)) course will introduce you to concepts including photogrammetry and laser scanning and provide you with experience in using modern software. The course will also inform you of the importance of geographical information systems, as a tool for advance planning of transport educational and health infrastructure.
