Cybercrime and Cybersecurity

Delve into the minds of a cybercriminal by learning the fundamentals of cybercrime including what motivates those who commit cyber attacks. 

In this course, you will gain a foundational understanding of the regulation and frameworks designed to protect individuals and organisations from cybercrime and the evolution of criminal activities. Delivered as a series of online modules and two-day practical workshop, you will learn from a current Investigator for the Queensland Police Service and Cyber Crime Group and teaching fellow at Bond Business School, Graeme Edwards. During the course you will learn about the emerging and exciting careers in cybersecurity, along with how to protect yourself and organisations and respond to a cyber attack. 

This course is delivered via five online modules: 

  • The cyber criminal 
  • Privacy rules of the Internet 
  • Cyber security frameworks
  • Cyber tradecraft, the internet and you 
  • Key things to do in responding to a cyber attack 

Students will also complete a two-day practical workshop where they will identify cyber criminal activities, their motivations and attack methodologies. You will learn how to respond to a cyber incident personally, and how to protect an organisation from cyber threats. Students will also gain insight into the array of career pathways available in the growing cyber security industry.

Delivery: On campus/online

Learning time: A total of 24 hours of learning, consisting of: 

  • 10 hours of online modules on the Bond Learner platform
  • 10 hours face-to-face on campus (Gold Coast)
  • 4 hours of additional reading and assessment

Practical workshop date: Saturday, 9 March, 2024 and Saturday, 16 March, 2024

Dr Graeme Edwards

Graeme Edwards is an experienced financial and cybercrime investigator, with extensive experience within the Queensland Police Service and Cyber Crime Group. He is a teaching fellow at Bond Business School, experienced public speaker and author of the Cybercrime Investigators Handbook published by Wiley Publishers in September 2019. This is a handbook providing investigators and managers guidance into how to conduct an investigation involving digital evidence from the time of receiving a request from a client/complainant through to the production of evidence in a court of law.
