What can you do with your degree?

Today, project management skills are in high demand in almost every commercial sector. Professionals with project management skills enjoy career success at all levels in fields such as construction, finance, health care and related industries, information technology, government, and property development. 

Innovation presents limitless opportunity for project managers in the initiate, implement or influence phases of the life cycle, especially for complex projects. Innovation requires a cross-disciplinary approach using creative and entrepreneurial skills and blending financial, social, political, and environmental criteria to realise value for project stakeholders.

Product manager

A product manager is responsible for the management of a product, from its conception all the way through to launch. This will include researching customer needs and requirements and defining the why, when and what of a product.  A product manager will lead and work closely with cross-functional teams which can include engineering, marketing, and PR to ensure that the business’ goals are met. The product manager is also held accountable for the company’s overall strategy and goals.

Change agent

A change agent in an organisation will assist the company with adjusting to new business transitions and innovations. The responsibilities of a change agent include analysing changes that will benefit the workplace and produce change management plans and strategies in order to maximise employee adoption and minimize resistance.

Business analyst

A business analyst helps facilitate solutions for stakeholders by defining business needs and extracting and documenting requirements aimed at resolving a current problem or future opportunity, to overall help achieve the business’ goals. The role involves collaboration with multiple departments to develop strategies that enhance costs while improving reporting. From there, a business analyst will develop and monitor data quality metrics so that business data and reporting needs are met.

Professional accreditation

Bond University is the only university in Australia with programs recognised by all three of the following industry bodies including Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM), Project Management Institute Global Accreditation Centre (PIM-GAC), and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge base that underpins the discipline of project management, as defined by the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide).
  2. Advise on effective implementation strategies to ensure value for money to the client/sponsor and to meet agreed key performance indicators for project success.
  3. Understand the qualities and characteristics that make an effective project team leader, communicator and manager of people and other resources.
  4. Make good decisions in the context of uncertainty through the identification, quantitative analysis and acceptance, mitigation or transfer of anticipated project risk.
  5. Implement strategy and procedures for administering a portfolio of projects or programs to ensure value is maximised and outcomes are feasible and aligned to organisational goals.
  6. Understand the legal ramifications of project conflict and apply techniques to avoid, minimise or resolve disputes, including giving evidence at formal proceedings.
  7. Apply project management knowledge to a particular discipline domain or area of interest and broaden educational outcomes through suitable elective choice.
  8. Build an awareness of the discipline of project management including globalisation, career opportunities, governance and professional development expectations.
  9. Understand and apply research methods applicable to social science problems and develop research plans for the acquisition of new knowledge.
  10. Demonstrate an ability to review and critique literature relevant to a specific topic, and effectively communicate ideas and research findings to others.
  11. Implement a research project related to the enrolled program of study, including collecting and analysing industry data to explore an identified problem or knowledge gap.
  12. Understand and apply the principles of design thinking to deliver projects that are innovative, embrace change and realise expected benefits.
  13. Implement adaptive frameworks and tools to manage digital projects, including use of Lean and Agile mindsets for rapid product deployment.
  14. Take a big picture or system-wide perspective of project impacts in the context of complex economic, social, political and environmental opportunities and risks.
  15. Appreciate the process of managing stakeholder expectations for a range of project typologies within different geographic and cultural settings.
  16. Demonstrate an ability to conceptualise, define, realise and test an innovative project to deliver strategic organisational advantage.
  17. Lead project teams to make strategic business decisions aligned with corporate goals and a philosophy of continuous process improvement.
  18. Obtain valuable concurrent work experiences in a relevant segment of the project management industry to align theory with contemporary professional practice.
