How to apply for HDR

Apply for a Bond University Higher Degree

To apply for admission to Bond University for a PhD or Masters degree you will need to complete an expression of interest (EOI) prior to completing an application. Before you start your EOI, please ensure you have all the necessary supporting documents ready to upload with the application.

Please note that a successful Expression of Interest submission does not guarantee acceptance to a Higher Degree Research program. Students must meet the academic entry requirements, as well as satisfy visa, residency and English proficiency requirements.

The Application process from EOI submission to letter of offer for admission can take up to  6- 10 weeks to complete. Ensure that you allow sufficient time to process your application for admission before the semester enrolment date.

HDR Applications

The Research Degree online application process begins with an Expression of Interest that asks you to select your program and provide a brief description (250-500 words) of your proposed research topic. Once you submit the Expression of Interest section, you will be assessed for availability of supervision.

You may start an EOI using the Bond University Online Application Service

You will be notified of the outcome by email, and if your expression of interest has been successful you will be invited to log back into the Bond University Online Application Service to complete the remaining sections of the application.

When completing the application section, you will be required to nominate referees, and Bond University will contact these referees referees upon submission of your application asking that they complete a referee report form. Your submitted application will not progress for assessment until such time as both referee reports have been received. You are encouraged to contact your referees prior to lodging your application to ensure that they will be available to complete the referee report form in a timely manner.

Your supervisory team are most important throughout your candidature for support and guidance for your research. The team consists of a Principal Supervisor and Associate Supervisors. Finding a supervisor allows you to match your area of interest with the relevant expertise within Bond University. Faculty staff will assist you with finding a suitable supervisor once you submit an expression of interest. Alternatively you can browse our supervisors via the Supervisors button on the sidebar.

If you have already discussed your research interests with any Bond University Academic staff members then please ensure that you include their name in the additional notes section under Research Outline when you complete your Expression of Interest.

You are also required to complete a detailed research proposal outlining the research topic, a proposed research methodology and key writings in the area. You should include relevant literature, research questions, research methodology and relevance or importance of your line of research.

The research proposal will allow the Faculty to consider if there is appropriate supervision for the project, if the proposal has sufficient merit to justify the completion of the degree applied for and if the student has sufficient knowledge and capability required to undertake the thesis.

Your proposed supervisor will provide guidance to assist you to complete your proposal.  Faculty Application Guidelines and Templates are also provided to assist you to complete your research proposal. Once you have completed your project proposal, upload the document using the "Upload new attachment for this Application" link in the attachments section of your application. 

Applicants applying to the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine will also be required to complete a whole of candidature budget. Your proposed supervisor will provide guidance to assist you to complete your budget

If you receive an offer for admission to your program but are unable to commence on campus as planned due to the Government's travel restrictions you can request to defer your commencement (and scholarship if you have been offered one) to a later semester intake date.

If your supervisor agrees and you have access to adequate resources and facilities at your location to support the commencement of your research program whilst offshore, you may seek approval to commence your program off campus. Commencement in your program while off campus will incur tuition fees, but any fee waiver offered to you will be applied to your fees. You must comply with the guidelines for off campus study and you must come to Australia to continue your studies once the COVID-19 travel restrictions are lifted.
