Creative Design Studio: Material (223)

The Material Studio 223

Workshops, studio sessions and site visits

The Material Studio encouraged students to question how materials can play a role in establishing an urban language understood through observing the varying degrees of built permanence in an existing coastal urban village. Students researched materials and tested ideas through a series of permanent, semi-permanent and temporary installations and structural combinations, the outcomes expressing their proposal’s tectonic and the amenity provided to the precinct. Further, students considered the flexibility of their ‘super structure’ for future adaptations.

Students develop ideas via workshops, studio sessions and site visits. Through these processes, students developed material logic related to the local context, reinterpretation and adaptation as strategies – as a means to give back to the existing site’s rich material language.
