Professional biography
Peter Kuhnell is the Director of Kuhnell Architecture, a design studio based in northern New South Wales that specialises in residential and commercial architecture. His approach blends thoughtful design with practical construction expertise, a perspective shaped by his early career in carpentry working on diverse building projects that provided him with a deep understanding of materials, structure, and craftsmanship. This foundation continues to influence his architectural practice and teaching.
Prior to founding Kuhnell Architecture in 2015, Peter worked with several renowned firms, including LAB Architects and Edmund and Corrigan in Melbourne. These roles allowed him to develop a strong design ethos and broaden his professional experience across a variety of projects.
A graduate of RMIT University in Melbourne, Peter began his teaching journey there as a semester tutor. Since May 2015 (Semester 152), he has been a Semester Academic at Bond University, where he teaches Design Studio, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and Professional Practice and Design Detailing subjects. His dual background in carpentry and architecture shapes his teaching style, bridging the gap between conceptual design and practical application.
