Professional biography

Dr Susan Rowe is a Clinical Psychologist, researcher, and educator whose work bridges developmental psychology, clinical practice, and community-based intervention. With over 17 years of experience in mental health care and higher education, Dr Rowe is committed to advancing evidence-based practices that promote emotional wellbeing and relational health in children, adolescents, and families. Her research program is grounded in developmental psychopathology and ecological models of resilience, exploring how parenting practices, family dynamics, and community factors influence mental health outcomes across the lifespan. Dr Rowe’s doctoral research, conducted in partnership with the Australian Institute of Family Studies and supported by the Australian Research Council, laid the foundation for a series of studies examining vulnerability and protective factors in young Australians. Her work has informed policy and practice, including contributions to the Commission for Children and Young People in Western Australia. Dr Rowe has published in leading journals such as Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, Journal of Adolescence, and Personality and Individual Differences, and regularly presents at national and international conferences. Her research has been recognised for its impact, with several publications ranked among the top 25% most cited globally. At Bond University, Dr Rowe serves as an Assistant Professor in the Master of Clinical Psychology and Professional Psychology programs. She is passionate about using innovative teaching strategies and furthering neurodiversity-affirming and anti-racism psychology education. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes critical thinking, reflexive learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Dr Rowe is committed to improving healthcare on the Gold Coast and has expanded access to psychological services in rural and remote communities. She actively engages with external stakeholders, including Queensland Health, Gold Coast Primary Health Network, and the Parenting and Family Research Alliance, to ensure her work remains responsive to community needs. Her current research focuses on utilising attachment-based, neuroscience-informed interventions for children, families and harnessing community based early screening and intervention.
