COVID-19 has seen the world embrace sanitisers and formal hand washing procedures in our private lives like never before. But even as we’ve thought more and more about surfaces and the hands that touch them as vectors for disease, mobile phones have largely escaped scrutiny.

The Queensland Community Foundation has announced Dr Patrick Corrigan AM is the 2021 Community Philanthropist of the Year. Dr Corrigan is Patron of the Bond University Indigenous Gala which has raised $2.8 million for scholarships, grants and bursaries since 2010 and has contributed more than 650 artworks to the university.

Blasting sheets of aluminium with a 12-gauge shotgun doesn’t fit the stereotype of your average mild-mannered librarian. But for Raelene Saheli, a casual library assistant at Bond University, her exploits with a firearm more commonly associated with Olympic clay target shooting are a form of art, art which will this month see her work feature for the first time in the annual SWELL Festival, held on Currumbin Beach.
