Message from the course director

"Many see current approaches to the regulation of enterprise governance as insufficiently rigorous and inadequately administered to uphold appropriate standards effectively. As the role of enterprise leaders continues to evolve, we are likely to see a tightening of regulation and increases in penalties for failure to govern an enterprise properly. The legal duties and obligations of enterprise leaders are likely to receive increased attention and become more demanding, and enterprise leaders are more likely to be held accountable for their own actions as well as those of the enterprise.

Many of the issues and challenges confronting enterprise leaders in the private sector also confront local councillors. As such, there is a clear need for better education of councillors, particularly in relation to their legal and ethical obligations as enterprise leaders. A comprehensive knowledge of enterprise governance and its legal context is the foundation of good leadership, whether in a private corporation or a local council.

The Bond Faculty of Law is pleased to provide all local governments access to our Advanced Credential in Enterprise Governance, as well as access to additional workshops and sessions provided exclusively to councillors enrolled in the course and hosted by our experienced course instructor. Developed by a team of highly qualified practitioners, the program will broaden local councillors’ understanding of their governance obligations, enhance their decision-making skills and refine their governance skills and abilities.
