3D-BIM (Modelling for Data and Visualisation)

About this microcredential

Build upon your Building Information Modelling (BIM) knowledge with 3D-BIM (Modelling for Data and Visualisation).

This microcredential introduces the concepts of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) and covers various software platforms suitable for openBIM application, and appropriate for Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery.

This course is taught from a practical applications perspective in a highly interactive environment, and is dedicated to covering BIM-related software platforms and their integration in accordance with openBIM principles. It investigates the impacts of AR and VR on Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery, and reviews their relevance in the context of the buildingSMART Australasia BIM Framework.

The 3D-BIM (Modelling for Data and Visualisation) is one of eight specialised microcredentials available. 


  1. Delivered by industry experts, this course is delivered over a three (3) day workshop.
  2. Participants will be provided with an exclusive welcome session prior to commencing the first workshop.
  3. Successfully completing the course will equip participants with a microcredential digital certificate.
  4. This microcredential aligns with the 5-credit point subject, 3D-BIM (Modelling for Data and Visualisation) (SSUD-303), in the Master of Building Information Modelling and Integrated Project Delivery. The microcredential may qualify for credit towards a Bond University Program.


This microcredential is aimed at professionals in architecture, project management, construction, valuation and property development, city planning or related fields with an interest in understanding the impacts of AR and VR on Lean Construction and Integrated Project Delivery.

Assumed Knowledge*:

  • Participants must have a basic understanding of Building Information Modelling concepts.
  • Participants require basic skills in architecture, construction or a related field; or experience in the building, construction industry.

*Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of knowledge of a subject area that students are assumed to have acquired through previous study. It is the responsibility of students to ensure they meet the assumed knowledge expectations of the subject. Students who do not possess this prior knowledge are strongly recommended against enrolling and do so at their own risk. No concessions will be made for students’ lack of prior knowledge.

Joe Banks

Joe has been working in the architectural industry for the past 18 years, and with Revit since version 8 (2005). He holds experience working on projects from $50k-$900Million and up to LOD 500 with 4D and 5D requirements. Joe has also completed multiple practice-wide Revit implementations, trained of over 200 users, and is a regular speaker at industry events including BILT, BIM NZ, BrisBIM, MelBIM, Autodesk University etc.
