Description

This capstone subject enables students to conduct "real-world" research in the biomedical sciences. Under the supervision of an active research academic, students will plan, execute and report on a research project chosen from a variety of topics. This research is spread across two semesters (Research Project A and Research Project B).

Learning outcomes

  1. Locate, evaluate and critique biomedical scientific literature
  2. Identify relevant gaps in current knowledge, formulate pertinent research questions and identify appropriate research methods to answer these questions
  3. Design, plan and execute a small contained research project to the standard required to produce rigorous outcomes
  4. Explain the regulatory framework and requirements for the ethical conduct of animal and human research
  5. Interpret and evaluate the results obtained from such investigations, and choose appropriate biostatistical techniques to analyse data
  6. Demonstrate and apply research communication skills including written report writing,oral presentation skills and model good laboratory practice.

Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of knowledge of a subject area that students are assumed to have acquired through previous study. It is the responsibility of students to ensure they meet the assumed knowledge expectations of the subject.
