Clash of the apex predators

Last Round: Bull Sharks v Wilston Grange - Bull Sharks won 4.5 (29) - 1.3 (9)

Opposition: Southport

Well, Southport is still the yardstick of the competition. Even though they've lost two, they're still the top team in my view. They beat Morningside by 55 last week, so they're in pretty good shape. But this is our test; if we can perform well against Southport, then I think we're the real deal.

Challenge

The challenge is to match them physically. They're a really good stoppage team, but so are we. We've got to match their physicality because they're a really mature group. We've got to use the ball better than we have been going inside 50.

Shuffling magnets:

We get Sky White and Charlie Adamson back from suspension. Charlie's back to play her second game after her ACL. We also get Milly Ella back from Sun's Academy. There'll be  really unlucky players to make way for them.

Ones to Watch

Tegan Williams will play her second game back after six weeks out with a shoulder injury, so looking forward to her getting back to her best. Annabelle Foate comes back from Suns Academy. We're looking forward to watching her have an impact.

Focus

We'll be playing really team-oriented footy. So that'll be our focus, that everyone just plays their role in the team. That's probably been our strength this year; we've been a really even team every week, so it makes it harder for the opposition to target our best players and take them out. Even contribution is always our focus.

Final Word

Win this, and we stay top of the ladder. It will give us confidence to know that we're good enough to mix it with the best. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best.

Last round: Bye

Opposition: This week we take on Carrara for the second time this season. We accounted for them quite convincingly in our first outing although this week will provide us with a different challenge given they have a number of quality players coming back into their side.

Challenge: Historically, we have always had a battle against Carrara. They play a hard contested brand that has challenged us in the past and disrupted our running game. We did match their physicality in our last outing and outran them in the latter stages of the game and will need to do the same this weekend to be any chance.

Shuffling: There may be a few changes both forced and through injury. The positive news is we have a number of high-quality players in our reserves team that can step up into the senior team seamlessly.

Ones to Watch: There are a number of players in career best form this season including, Ollie Burrow-Cheng, Matty Smith along with young guns, Fin Gray, Jack Graham, Kane Emery and Jed Kowald. We have a great mix of experience and youth who are all in terrific form.

Focus: We need to match their physicality early as they will jump out of the blocks breathing fire without question. Our system and game style has and is working we don’t need to get away from that.

Final Word: We play another home game against a quality opposition this week, we’re excited to continue our good form and get a win against a Club we enjoy playing as we know it will be hard earnt.
