Chez is the surfing Bos

Chez Bos

Gold Coast local Chez Bos secured the UniSport National men’s shortboard championship at Tallebudgera Beach last Thursday, delivering an outstanding performance with a final score of 13.73.

The Bond University Diploma of Built Environment student posted an impressive of 5.83, but it was his 13th wave, a 7.90 and the highest score of the competition which edged him out in front of QUT student Zane Jenner who finished on a total of 13.04.

Conditions were small with waves in the 1ft range and winds blowing onshore.

“It’s been a really fun week. Today the waves were pretty small but I managed to get the job done,” Bos said.

“When I caught that wave, it didn't even look that good on the take-off. The wave stood up and gave me the opportunity to do 2 turns which was hard to find out there.

“I knew the score was going to be close, and it was. When the score came through, there was about 1min left in the final, and I turned to Zane, and played defence from there.”

Perhaps it was the home-ground advantage which gave Bos the upper hand – the Gold Coast local has grown up surfing for Burleigh Board Riders.

“I’ve grown up training down this whole beach, so I definitely know how the waves work,” Bos said.

“I really focused on winning the comp. I’m just glad everything turned out how I envisioned it.”

The Bull Sharks also celebrated success in the longboard divisions, with students Luke Rana-Smith and Lyla Wilson both taking home bronze in the men’s longboard and women’s longboard respectively.
