Bond University Bull Sharks have pulled of a mid-season recruiting coup by signing powerhouse circle defender Holly Comyns for the remainder of the 2026 season.
The Bull Sharks - defending Hart Premier Series champions – have won their last three games and currently sit third on the competition ladder.
But with massive matchups with frontrunners Ipswich Jets and Kedron-Wavell Cougars to follow, Comyns’ arrival could not be more timely.
The highly regarded 190cm plus Australian U19 representative and Queensland pathways product will join the Bull Sharks after a breakout stint with Te Wānanga o Raukawa Pulse in New Zealand’s ANZ Championship.
Comyn's definitely made an impression in her first ANZ season - she was named 'Fans Player of the Year'.
While many players were looking forward to a post-season rest, Comyns said she was in no such mood, particularly after an injury-interrupted 2025 season.
“I just want to keep improving,” she said.
“I had a year off last year due to an ankle problem, but I was super happy with my season this year at Pulse.
“I could have had an extended break but I want to be back on court again to keep fine tuning my game and to get back in the swing of Hart-level competition.”
“It made sense for me to keep going. It just felt right.”
Comyn’s return to Queensland will see her reunite with Bond’s Head Coach Bec Stower.
“Bec actually coached me a couple times in the past when I represented Queensland at U17 level and I’ve played with many of the girls who are now at Bond in different teams over the years.
Stower said she was thrilled to team up with Comyns once again.
“Holly’s incredibly strong, she’s very tall, she wins ball and she’s an unbelievably fierce competitor.”
“We’ve been really happy with our defensive unit this year, but it’s a gruelling competition and our depth has definitely been tested at times.”
“I’m absolutely delighted she reached out looking for a game.
“In fact, I think it’s a massive compliment for our squad and our program that a player of Holly’s calibre has sought us out specifically.”
Comyns said her stint over the Tasman was a huge eye-opener.
“I’ve learnt so much playing for Pulse.”
“Being in a fully professional environment has been a huge step up for me.
“I now know what it takes to be a top-level player, so I’m super keen to bring what I’ve learned in New Zealand to Bond.”
Comyns will make her first appearances for Bond this weekend with the Bull Sharks facing Carina Tigers on Saturday at Nissan Arena before hosting the Titans at Carrara.
