Bond scores stellar line-up for Women's Aon Uni Sevens Series

Bond University is set to tackle the opening round of the Women's Aon Uni Sevens Series head-on, with a stellar line-up named ahead of the team's trial match against the University of New England (UNE) in Armidale.

The Bond University Women's team, which boasts local, national and international talent, was unveiled as part of the University's rugby end-of-season presentation event on Friday, 4 August at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.

The 23-strong team is set to represent Bond in the Women's Aon Uni Sevens Series, which features eight university teams, and runs from August until September.

Bond University Sevens head coach Ben Gollings said he was confident the Bond side would perform strongly as they prepare to kick-off the season in Tasmania at the end of the month (25 and 26 August).

"The series  will be a prime opportunity for up-and-coming Bond athletes to showcase their skills on a national stage and with such a stellar line-up of players on our side, we would like to be finishing in the top three by the end of the season," he said.

"With Australian Women's Sevens champions' Charlotte Caslick and Brooke Walker joining forces with local stand-out Jessica Elliston and Irish international Stacey Flood, the Bond side will be a force to be reckoned with."

He said Bond University had also been named as the venue to host the all-important final tournament of the Series on September 29 and 30.

"We are already gearing the team up for the fourth and final event, where we will have the home turf advantage here at Bond University, and we hope the community really get behind these women," he said.

"To be named as host for the final tournament of Australia’s first-ever Women’s Sevens series and to give Gold Coast rugby fans the chance to watch their heroes in action really is a great honour for Bond."
